Fox pulls "Ben & Kate" for Sweeps

Fox announced that it is pulling Ben & Kate from its lineup effective immediately. How much of this is because it looks like it wants to get Raising Hope's season done by the end of March remains to be seen.

Here are the announced replacement shows:
1/29 - a second new Raising Hope
2/5 - a second new Raising Hope
2/12 - the State of the Union address
2/19 - a New Girl repeat
2/26 - a second new Raising Hope
3/5 - American Idol
Hell's Kitchen starts on Tuesdays on 3/12; the only other Raising Hope announced is the season finale on Thursday 3/28 (in place of Glee, which will probably be on its annual "spring break")

The press release says that Ben & Kate will return with new episodes "at a later date", but they said that about Breaking In and I Hate My Teenage Daughter when they started their "hiatuses" as well...

We really enjoy Ben & Kate. Though it was finding it's groove. Guess we are the only ones that feel this way.

I watched the first episode and was done. I heard someone talk about the show on the radio yesterday. They said the show got worse after the first episode.

I barely made it through the pilot.

Started the second episode and never made it through it.

I wasn't sure about the show at first but it has grown on me. Kinda like Don't hate the B. Hate to see both of them go.

Tried to watch it, but couldn't stand the actor who plays Ben. He's just awful. And he looks like he has 3 rows of teeth.

I enjoyed it. I always seemed to watch it before Go On, The Mindy Project and several other Tuesday night shows. Only New Girl ranks above it on that night.

I enjoyed it. I could have done without Ben's hijinks - I got more laughs out of Kate, and her friend BJ.

The last episode - where BJ was teaching Kate's young daughter to speak with a British accent for a commercial audition - had me LOL'ing.

This. I couldn't make it through the first scene he was in, which was like 2 minutes into the show.

I had to replay when the girl said in a british accent "I've watching the BBC all day". So funny!

He's an Academy Award winner with 3 rows of teeth.

He was one of the co-writers of The Descendants and won an Oscar with the guy who plays the dean on Community.

The show has slightly grown on me, but it's not a huge deal… I hate the B is MUCH funnier, and when Happy Endings (presumably) gets the ax soon, that'll be a way bigger deal.

Heck, 30 Rock and the Office ending are way worse things, as much as some hate this year's Office.

That's nice, but he's still awful in this show.

Agree. I thought his character was dumb and annoying and it's why I was shocked to find out he won an Oscar for screen writing.

I think Fox changed their mind and said its now officially canceled and production has been shut down. No idea whether any of the completed episodes will ever air.

Not sure what one has to do with the other. He didn't write the character, he just acted it out. Even though I didn't like the character much either, I think he did an ok job with it, given that "Ben" was supposed to be dumb and annoying.

Although the show had an 18-episode order from the network, production closed abruptly on Friday (Jan. 25), partway through what would have been the 16th episode. The remaining two episodes of the order will not go into production, and there will be no further filming of the current one.

BIHF.

I really enjoyed the show. I thought the cast was fantastic, the characters were all great and interesting. The story lines were hilarious and a little poignant. I even liked the theme song.

Between this and Don't Trust the B-----, it's been a sad week for my sitcoms.

:-(

That sucks. I enjoyed the show. it wasn't high-brow humor, but it made me laugh.

For those with magic means, episodes 14-16 have aired in the UK and made it to the interwebs.
