7 Day Free Trial

So I broke down and got another Elite/XL4 (4th one) and I want to test it out with the new fall update that just came out. I set it up this morning, and finally got it to go to the 7 day trial period so I can record stuff and use it. I had to connect several times to get the guide data, and I guess it had to do some indexing. Finally this evening it got to the point to where it will let me record stuff, and it says it has to be activated in 6 more days. I've tried to connect a few more times to try to get it to download the new fall update, but it downloaded and installed the previous one. I called Tivo and of course they want me to put it on contract, but I dont want to do that yet until I can tell if its gonna act right or not. I even went and put it on that "priority list" so maybe that will help to get it. Still nothing after 2 more connects to the mothership.

So my question, is there some reason it wont let me have the update? Am I going to have to activate it before it will let me have the update? Is it possible it will come in the next day or so maybe? This is so frustrating

I don't think the update is WIDE open for everyone yet.. I think it's currently priority list plus presumably a random sample of regular folks.

Why would the update break it? If you already have three other Elites, don't you have the new software on at least one of them already?

I dont have 3 other ones. I HAD 3 other ones that I got rid of and sold because they would not work with my cable system. Tivo kept switching them out because they would not take responsibilty that their software had some issues. Finally I gave up. Now they realize there were issues as they have posted here in these forums long after the fact. So I got another one after speaking to some other people that were having the same issues I was, that maybe this has been fixed with the recent fall update. This is why I want the new update to download so I can test it out.

If you are really bored you can read more about it all here:

Ok, I thought you had 3 already. I bought my Elite after I moved away from Texas, so I never had one hooked up there. I had lots of problems with Time Warner and their stupid tuning adapters. The same S3's, HD's and Premieres work here much better without them.

Good luck.

TiVo has a 30 day money back guarantee. Try it out for 30 days and if it doesn't act right, get a refund and return the item. Most retailers has a 30 day return period as well.

Just a reminder as well, you have to go on month to month, or decide with a lifetime subscription within the first 30 days though!
