Difference between Elite and XL4

Woot has the Tivo Premiere Elite for $299 while I see the Premiere XL4 for $399 both have the same configuration 4 tuners and 2 Terabyte drives. is there a difference between them that would make the XL4 a better machine?

Thanks
Pat

They're the same thing. TiVo recently changed the naming convention of the Premieres.

The only physical difference is the box it comes in and the name silk screened on the front of the unit.

I remember posting for similar kind of question in a different thread. This is a Partial Rebranding technique adopted by the company. The brand basically stays the same – it is just “updated” or becomes more aesthetically pleasing. This is what companies do when they want to attract more customers. The TiVo DVR comprises of the Premiere, the dual-tuner Premiere XL, and the quad-tuner Premiere Elite also called as Premiere XL4. The first two are suitable for over-the-air programming, while the latter is limited to those with cable or FiOS subscriptions.

And the re-branding allows for future expansion without a major name change (allows for the possibility of an XL6 in the future).
