I don't understand how people are excited about this. I watched every episode and loved the show early on. Then I tolerated it for a few years. Then at the end, I simply endured it because I wanted to see what happened and I am a completist. I was very glad when they announced the show was ending and haven't missed it at all. I don't understand why FOX would bring it back, or why anyone is looking forward to this.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder?

It's easier remembering the highlights (seasons 5 and 7) than the lowlights.

Seasons 5 and 7 were highlights? Remind me what about those seasons was good. From my memory, there really wasn't anything very novel or entertaining after about S4, and it just seemed to continually be a retread of the same thing over and over.

24 was kind of hit and miss for me, I bailed on one season midway through, but overall I enjoyed it. I am totally down to watch these 12 episodes. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" is definitely part of it. Pretty much the only reason I stuck with the first season of Touch is that it was nice to see Kiefer Sutherland on TV again, but it just wasn't the same as seeing Jack Bauer on TV again.

Season 5
Spoiler:
had the deliciously over the top performance by Gregory Itzen as President Logan, culminating in that awesome scene in the helicopter where Jack, having hijacked Marine One, just stares daggers at Logan while Logan blubbers away.

Season 7
Spoiler:
hung together from start to finish with the Tony Almeida out for revenge storyline that actually made sense; I think having the year off due to the writers' strike worked to 24's advantage because it gave the writers time to plot everything in advance, rather than make things up as they went along.

YMMV.

For me, now that it is only 12 hours, they can get rid of the silly subplots and be more focused on the main plot which I think will make the show stronger. They had been in talks about a movie and with Fox trying more 'all year' programming this seems like a good fit. Forget about trying to make 24 fit into 2 hours, just use that idea as a limited run series.

Interesting that when Kevin Reilly made the announcement this morning, he said that each season of "24" basically only had about 12 hours worth of plot, and the rest was "connective tissue," so he said that this new "season" will just be solid plot. He also said each episode will be real time and they'll all take place in a day, but that they'll skip hours here and there. This will finally give Jack time to take a dump and grab something to eat.

I would have enjoyed 24 more had they tried a little harder to stick to the "events occur in real time" thing that was the hook for the show at the beginning. I would have liked to see them plot out the whole season, where each character would be and when. Yes, there are moments where that would have meant Jack or someone would have been in a car or in a plane (or the bathroom, or whatever), but that's when they could have switched to a different plot line or character to focus on.

I kind of got bored with the series when it was clear that they didn't care about the real-time aspect, and that meant it was just an average action show.

I guess I'm one of the few who absolutely loved everything about 24 and I can't wait for this!

I'll watch. No, the show wasn't as good in the latter seasons, but I think it was still pretty solid.

Nope, not the only one.

I'm already planning a watching party for the first episode.

You don't even need to go that far. 24 did it already in Season 7.

You are not the only one. I will have a watching party for the first episode. If I did not work 3-11:30 M-F would have weekly watching party like we do for GoT.

I never watched seasons 7 or 8, yet I'm somehow excited for this for some reason.

Wondering if I need to go watch those. I can watch one a week for 48 weeks.
