castle 2/18/13

castle goes jack bauer on the bad guy and no thread!!!!!

i'm glad for once we had a realistic show where the cop did let the friend do something bad instead of saying i'm a cop, i cant let you do that. i thought for a moment alexis was on a boat but they probably would have felt that. i guess sweeps month means a lot of continued shows to next week.

was there a previous ep where alexis was in some other trouble as well. i think after this she's going to be taking internet classes for her degree

It was a awesome episode, I hope nothing happens to Alexis or I'll quit watching the show. I also heard something mentioned about his father in the preview for the upcoming episode. I wonder why his mother never told him about his dad? Maybe he was a spy...

Yes I also saw the preview about his father. Looks like maybe he kidnapped his grandaughter.

Minor nit: Even though France's emergency number is 112, the US 911 is in the GSM list of well known emergency numbers and would have connected to the French emergency services anyway. The other direction works, too, as numbers like 112 and 999 are also on that list, so an European visitor to the US can dial their emergency number without thinking to remember what the US one is.

For GSM, the number is unimportant. In fact, when you dial 911, your phone doesn't actually try to connect to the phone number "911". It instead asks the network to connect it to "emergency services".

Of course, that doesn't apply to landlines. The number is still important for those.

I presume that was green screen and they really weren't in Paris? It looked pretty good, regardless..

Probably just stock footage. I didn't see the need for a green screen. The view of Paris was from Alexis' POV and when Alexis was onscreen, it was just the top of some building that could be anywhere.

Ummm.... You missed her staring straight at the Eiffel Tower in disbelief with the shot framed from behind her. She was on screen left, and the tower was on screen right. She then turns to look behind her with a confused look on her face.

Yes, Green Screen. Edit: Actually I take that back. Considering the previews for the next week, there's a good chance that they were actually in Paris.

I just went back to check this, because I didn't remember the exact sequence. She dials 911, listens very briefly, then stops and Skypes instead. So I don't think we can say with certainty that the call didn't go through. There are too many sound effects going on at the same time, so maybe one of you guys with a better sound system can hear better, but I think what happens is that she dials 911 (which we see), she hears something which is not the standard US phone ringing sound, disconnects immediately and Skypes to reach her dad.

There is definitely a weird sound that she hears after she dials 911, kind of like a busy signal (but not exactly). It sounds like it is not connecting. But from what we saw, I agree there is a possibility that it would have connected if she waited longer.

So next Monday's episode is just a TV remake of "Taken"? Heh.

I wonder if Castle's previous fictional protagonist, Derrick Storm, will come into play here.

Nope. I'm going back to green screen after watching the continued episode.

No spoilers. They still haven't quite figured out how to get the same color gamut between the actors and the green-screen-composited background.
