Watch H.264 on Tivo ??

This may be the wrong heading. If so, please move.

I have movies in MP4 or H.264 that I download from the computer on to my iPad 2 and watch with airplay or connect with HDMI. Works OK.

My question:

Can you stream the MP4/H.264 from the computer to Tivo?

I would like to stream/download to Tivo about 15 movies to watch at my convenience. Anyway this can be accomplished? Sometimes the air play works and sometimes it does not. HDMI works but a pain with the cables running 15 ft.

Thank for the usual fine help.

Yes, you can do it in several ways. Personally I use pyTivo.

Perhaps you could explain the several ways to do this since I have no clue.

Thanks for your help.

I know if you push videos from TiVo Desktop, and pyTiVo to your TiVo, it will push the mp4 file to your TiVo in it's original format, pyTiVo will allow more types of MP4 / H.264 encodings then TiVo Desktop.

Pushing is where you set up a auto transfer to send the file to your TiVo. If you request the file form your TV it will convert to MPEG-2.

With pyTivo "ts=on" setting in server section that's no longer always the case. You can pull H.264 video to your TiVo without having it transcoded to mpeg2 for series 4 or later units.

With an older version of ffmpeg.exe (2010 build), I get the following error when pulling H.264 video.
C:\pyTivo\bin\ffmpeg.exe: unrecognized option 'bsf'

A newer version of ffmpeg.exe (2013 build) seems to work fine.

Yes, a requirement of "ts=on" feature is using a recent ffmpeg build. That info is buried in the pyTivo thread.

Have you tried Vuze? It's a simple drag and drop, it converts my H.264 movies to TiVo format and then I can download them to my TiVo. At the bottom of 'My Shows', there is a Vuze folder with the movies that I dropped in Vuze's Device Playback.
