Mini ir adapter

Hi everyone,
I have a roamio plus and a mini. Rather than use the tivo IR adapter, I would like to use an IR adapter from buffalo electronics. It's a .5" tube repeater.
Product info at: http://www.buffaloelectronics.com/infrared/ir350.htm
Is there a way to connect this to the USB port like the tivo ir adapter? How do I connect it to the mini? Do I need an amplified connecting block? Or does the mini supply the voltage necessary? The tube adapter has three terminals, v+ sig and gnd. How would I connect this to a USB? I have almost no electronics background, so any advice would be really helpful.

That will not work. The TiVo uses a specific USB connected adapter, similar to what you would use on a PC. Not a repeater, like you are looking at.

This is a software driven device, with specific drivers on the TiVo.
