Largest eSATA Expansion Drive Supported

Hello -

Quick / easy question (hopefully)...

What is the largest capacity drive you can install in an eSATA enclosure, attach to a Roamio Pro and have it auto-configure?

I know the 1TB WD DVR Expander is the largest "official" drive that TiVo supports but was wondering if there was an opportunity to go the unsupported route with a 2TB or 3TB expansion drive for extra capacity and still have the auto-configure feature work?

Not looking to get into a hacking/WinMFS/manual "marrying" type of situation like was prevalent on earlier models.

Thanks!

Nobody has done that as it is totally simple to just put in a larger drive internally.

The Roamio Pro comes with a 3TB internal drive standard... How is it possible that people have installed an internal drive larger than that?

You cannot without going with weaknees. Many get the other two boxes and put a 3TB in.

The 1TB WD DVR Expander is the ONLY drive that will work period. TiVo doesn't allow any other drives to be connected to the eSATA port so there is no way to test if it would allow a bigger drive. The only way you'll be able to go bigger is if WD releases a 2-3TB DVR expander.

WK has a 8Tb setup, I don't know if it is two 4Tb drives internal and external but I would guess that what it is with 1280 HD hours.

They must do something to trick the software into accepting an external drive that is not a WD DVR expander. The OP specifically said he didn't want to get into anything fancy like that.
