Thumbs up Up Late with Alec Baldwin on MSNBC: "2001: A Space Odyssey"

I had no idea about Alec Baldwin's MSNBC show "Up Late" until I read that he was suspended and looked it up.

I saw that he had on the stars of "2001: A Space Odyssey,"

Gary Lockwood and Keir Dullea. I've never seen either of them interviewed.

They look very different. Somehow they got 45 years older.

I just cast the whole show to my Chromecast. It's damned good, even if Alec tells too many of his own war stories. I like Alec's insight, film knowledge and impressions.

They do have great stories about making one the greatest films of all time. When you're upside down and you drop your bite of of food, it falls up.

I never noticed that Gary Lockwood was on the Star Trek TOS pilot! They go through how he was on every TV cop show in the 70s and 80s.

Take a look.

Thanks to the usual flashola crapola I can't post a link to the actual episode. Just scroll to episode 6. It will play all of the segments in sequence.

I'll set an SP for the show. Alec should be back eventually.

I saw what I think was the first episode where he talked to the guy who since then won the Democratic primary for New York mayor, and was very impressed with Baldwin as host/interviewer and very appreciative of the calm, let the guest finish what they're saying manner in which the show is run.

But like the other Friday night MSNBC stuff, they don't re-air overnight because they've got to show those blankety-blank prison shows, and I've had a tuner/drive space shortage lately, so have missed the rest of them.

Especially annoyed at missing the 2001 show.

And I know what you mean about the rest of the world getting older. I wish they'd stop that, it's most disconcerting.

Personally, I doubt that, which will probably disappoint you and the other three people watching the show.

Seriously, though, the ratings were somewhere in the range of being statistical noise.

The first show I watched was with Debra Winger and it was very good. The 2001 episode was outstanding.

Overall (except for the previously mentioned number of war stories Alec tells) I've enjoyed the show better than I thought I would.

In light of Baldwin's recent anti-gay tirade, I'd say it's pretty unlikely that this show will return any time soon.

What tirade? He's being accused of saying one word.

Hey, paparazzi, Baldwin is offering to quit. How much do you get for pictures of a former actor?

I watched this 2001 episode of baldwin's show, and really liked it. I then had the urge to watch the movie again because it's probably been over 25 years since I've seen it. That was a mistake. I should have just kept my memory of it being a great movie. I have never been so bored watching a movie in my life.

2001 episode was great, same for D. Winger...social media, paparazzi, TMZ..it's all crap. Too bad this show is likely toast.

Rather unsurprisingly, the show has been permanently canceled:

I'm convinced the "anti-gay comments" just gave MSNBC an excuse to ditch a woefully low rated show.

I'm sure his viewers will be disappointed.

...all three of them...

It's a shame really, while I can't stand his politics, I've always considered Alec Baldwin to be a talented actor. Too bad he's a horrible person.

Funny you should mention the cast of 2001. I saw them just about a month ago at the Chiller Expo. Didn't take their picture, unfortunately. I'm on a tight budget.

It was also because Alec was nasty and demanding to the staff. He did say they did tremendous job planning a JFK show he couldn't do.

They might otherwise have let the show find an audience.

I have direct knowledge that AB has OCD but I don't know how it manifests. It may be that he can't compromise or has ADD. That would explain how he has his hands in so many pots, like narrating the New York Philharmonic.

Apparently, all you can watch online now is segments of his show. I couldn't find a way to watch complete episodes, like it used to be. I wonder how long it will be before it disappears completely from the website?

Liberals don't mind if other liberals are racist, sexist, or homophobic.

I suspect his ratings were low and it gave management an excuse to ditch him while saving face. We'll probably see him on SNL soon.

Finally, one reason to watch MSNBC (2001 reprise) and it's cancelled.
