As stated above, the problem was resolved by swapping HDMI cables. I haven't seen it return. I'm not saying the HD and/or power supply aren't about to die, but I'm not going to go poking around with something that is exhibiting zero problems.
I'd expect a drive running 24/7 to last longer than one that gets started up and shut down several times a day.

But either way, they won't last forever.

That drive has been on the market longer than just since August of last year.

By user error do you mean that they ran

wdidle3.exe /R

and when it came back reporting that Intellipark was disabled their lying eyes told them it was reporting a certain number of seconds?
