I don't actually know much about the drive interfaces and requirements, but I will say that the rotational speed between drives (5400RPM vs. 7200RPM) has an impact on the physical drives themselves. 7200RPM drives *generally* run louder and hotter (it's a physics thing). So, if 5400RPM drives have enough performance then I would recommend that because it should be quieter and cooler. The cooler piece is important if there is a variable speed fan in the system that is tied to thermal sensors.
Most importantly, look for a drive that someone else has used and stated that it works.
