Roamio without Tv

Is it possible to use my Android (Galaxy S4) to completely control the Roamio and watch shows (OTA) on it? I don't currently have an actual tv, and don't intend to get one anytime soon.

The initial setup of the Roamio would require a tv monitor. Otherwise I have no idea how you could complete the step.

No, and streaming functionality for Android devices is not expected for release until 2014. Have you considered Aereo? I believe they recently released an Android app, and that should deliver most OTA channels if the service is available in your area.

If your only interest is OTA, and since you mention you don't have a TV, you may be a good fit for Simple.TV. The only downside is that they, too, have yet to release an Android client, but a report from September indicates that it is due by mid-November.

The second generation of the simple.tv box is in production now for a release also around mid-November. It is being manufactured in partnership with SiliconDust.

Sounds like a trend!

I may be able to use an SDTV with it. I know, but I'm really only looking to record/watch 2 shows on the Tivo at the moment, so I can deal with it for a short time. Will it connect/work with an SDTV with composite and analog stereo connections?

Sort of.

With an OTA signal, you would require the base model Roamio (as the Plus/Pro do not support OTA). The base model Roamio is HDMI output only unless you buy a breakout cable that will allow for composite video and audio connectivity.

Keep in mind that with the Base Roamio you'd also need the standalone TiVo Stream to get tablet streaming. Only the Plus/Pro versions have that built in, and they are cable only.

Since you only need two tuners you might want to look at getting a used Premiere 2 tuner unit. They also support the TiVo Stream and you could probably pick one up fairly cheap.

Although until the Android app is released neither one is going to really work for you. (unless you want to buy an iPad instead)

Can somebody recommend a good, small indoor antenna under $50?

I have one of these and it works good...

http://www.amazon.com/Amplified-High.../dp/B0007MXZB2

Supports both UHF and VHF which is nice. (a lot of antennas only do UHF these days)
