Guide issues

Ever since I got to college, my TiVo has been acting up.
A couple weeks ago most of my channels went blank. So after several weeks of resets, restarts, rescanning for channels, etc.
I have all my channels back, but after the first ten I have 2 of ever channel
51 and 51-1 as an example. Now 51 shows that say NCis is on and if I have a season pass NCIS will record on that channel, but that channel is completely blank. 51-1 has NCIS on it, but I can't record it ahead of time as the guide for all the -1 channels is blank even though they're the only one's the show plays on.
Also sometimes not blank, often the regular channel is sports, instead of what it's supposed to be.

Please help

You aren't supposed to be watching TV, you're supposed to be out partying and getting...I'm mean studying, yeah, that's right, studying.

And so your TiVo is just looking out for you.

But seriously, which model TiVo, are we talking over the air or cable or both, which cable provider, analog or digital cable, cable cards involved, what about a Tuning Adapter for Switched Digital Video channels on cable, what part of the country are you in...you know, specifics.

Two things. If you are in a dorm, your school may have a lineup that is different than that of the rest of the town. Second, a lack of a cable card is why you are seeing the XX-1 channels and Tivo does not provide guide data for those channels.

Well I can't get a cable card
I live out of state so the cable company won't sell it to me(no idea why)
And I can't get it from the school as they won't pay for it

By out of state you mean your home address (parents' address, I assume) is not in the same state as the college?

Are you in a dorm, getting cable as part of the package, or do you have your own individual cable subscription where it's just you and the cable company and no middleman?

And they usually don't sell cable cards, they make you pay rent on them every month.

And you have to get the card from the cable company because it has to be one that works with their head end equipment.

Is it a regular for profit cable company that also serves the surrounding community, or something that the college itself operates?

You need to find out if they've just put up a big antenna and run the signal through booster amps without moving any channels around to other frequencies, or if they're doing it the way a cable company does.

Is there supposed to be anything else on the cable besides ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and PBS?

Like USA, TNT, CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, ESPN, etc.?

If not, it might be that you should actually connect the cable to your TiVo's antenna input instead of the cable input.

You could print this all out and find out who runs/maintains the college's cable system and show it to them to get some answers.

Come to think of it, which college? There might be something on line that would give us some clues.

I'm pretty sure I should get those channels
Last year I had all the major channels working fine, but then I got an email saying they were changing something about the cable and then it got complicated.
Certain channels like 22 would say Cartoon Network, but if I recorded something or went to it, it would be time warner sports. If I went to 23 and pressed channel down, it would bring me to Cartoon Network

Any chance of finding that email and posting it here?

I might be able to dig some clues out of the wording.
