Technically it will transfer with the box, but you can make it easier on the buyer and yourself if you call TiVo.
When you have the sale finalized, call TiVo and tell them you are selling the DVR and ask for a reference number that you can give to the buyer.
When the buyer receives the DVR, he can then call TiVo with the reference number which can speed up the process of transferring the lifetime to his own account.
