New FX show Fargo with Bob Odenkirk, Oliver Platt, Adam Goldberg

This sounds like a winner!

Quote:
After spending four seasons of Breaking Bad trying to evade law enforcement, Bob Odenkirk will switch sides for FX’s Fargo.

The comedian has boarded the ten-part limited series in a supporting role, along with Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Kate Walsh (Private Practice), Joey King (The Conjuring), Adam Goldberg, Oliver Platt, and more.

This sounds like the kind of quirky thing I would like. My problem with it will be comparing it to the Coen Bros. movie which was a classic. If this is just about Minnesota quirky, and nothing much else, then I'll be really disappointed. But definitely worth a watch.

You had me at Oliver Platt. My favorite role of his was in Huff, although Bored to Death was great too.

Count me in as a huge Oliver Platt fan. Diggstown is one of my all time favorite movies.

As others noted huge Oliver platt fan so I would check it out for that alone

IF this does well, can Bob Odenkirk do this show and "Better Call Saul"?

This one is just a ten-episode limited series, according to the OP.

My fear / hope / not sure is that this this will be a hit and they will screw it up by trying to extend it.

Probably not on FX but if this was Fox, I'm sure that would happen.

They say if it's successful, they're looking at an American Horror Story style anthology series. So no particular actor would be indispensable from season to season.

Not sure what American Horror Story does, but I suppose they can keep the same main characters and just do a different story from season to season.

With AHS, it's a completely different story each season. Many of the same actors, but playing different characters.

I suspect with Fargo, the "first season" of which has nothing in common with the movie except tone, they would simply do Fargo-style stories with new casts and probably in different places (in the Upper Midwest). They specifically mentioned AHS, so I doubt they're thinking of the same characters year to year.

I just saw a preview for this the other night and they show Billy Bob Thornton in the cast as well. I heard some buzz about this show months ago and I've been looking forward to it ever since.

The Coen Brothers movie took place in Minnesota. The Corn Brothers TV show takes place in Iowa.

Yeah, I'll probably watch it. Having lived in Fargo for several years (NDSU graduate (home of the thundering herd...)) and a childhood in Minnesota, it is always interesting to see how my homeland is depicted.

Of course they are filming it in Canada....

The accent always amuses me. It's always so over the top. I just don't think it is that pronounced. I guess for movies/tv...

I had a friend who was TERRIBLY offended by the Fargo accent. Which she was utterly incapable of realizing she pretty much had herself. Listening to her rant about the Fargo accent in her Fargo accent was a level of irony you would normally expect only in a Coen Brothers movie.

I thought the movie accent was hilarious, but then I've always been more Newscaster Standard.
