Will rcn TiVo work on comcast???

Picked up a TiVo premiere 4 from a yard sale for 20 bucks this weekend. Can I put a comcast multi streamcable card in the TiVo and will it activate ?? Or did I flush 20 bucks down the drain???

I could be mistaken, but I was not aware that RCN sold their boxes. If it was legally purchased, I would think it could work. If it is essentially stolen property from a lease arrangement, you are SOL and may have an obligation to return it to the owner.

I saw a similar offer on craigslist and avoided for this same scenario.

That is not really relevant.

RCN just uses standard Premiere units, so it will technically function with any CableCARD system. However the TiVo account side could be a problem. TiVo knows when a Premiere belongs to RCN so they may not allow you to activate it as a standalone unit.

Basically you purchased stolen equipment. Someone canceled their service with RCN and did not return the TiVo they were renting from them, and instead sold it to you. TiVo may have an agreement with RCN to prevent units like that from being activated.

It's not necessarily stolen. Someone could have paid the fee for equipment that has not been returned.

I'm willing to bet that is a penalty, and not a purchase, so that even if paid the unit was to be returned to RCN. Thus, it is now a brick.

OP- if you really want one of these, watch craigslist. I just got one for $20 free and clear, there are many offers locally for $50 or less.

BestBuy has the 4 tuner Premiere units on clearance for $60. If you're going to pay monthly that's a pretty good deal.
