SNL (10/12/13) - Bruce Willis/Katy Perry

I liked the opening tying in the new movie "Gravity" to the govt. shutdown of NASA.

Other than that, I felt that Taran Killam gave the strongest performances throughout the show, which was otherwise pretty much a snooze-fest.

Kate McKinnon is great as European characters, and the short film featuring mostly new cast was weak.

I liked the new guy on the Weekend Update talking about his bad tattoo decisions.

I can hardly recall anything else about this episode other than Katy Perry's performances which I enjoyed.

i was feeling the sketches are shorter and don't drag on after revealing the "joke"

Thought man dance party was pretty good.

Felt like the Man Dance Party was trying a little too hard to be like a Digital Short.

I thought that late sketch was hilarious, where they got Katy Perry involved and had her doing some weird stuff with giant sheets. Reminded me of Deep House Dish.

What? That wasn't a sketch? That was actually a real music performance? Oh.

I was going to post that I thought the Katy Perry sketches were HILARIOUS. I thought that was the funniest part of the show. Comedy gold.

So, so bad. I got a good laugh out of it at least.

I haven't seen it yet, but from watching her, I always felt Katy Perry could make a career of being an actress if she wanted to. She's got a charisma about her.

Seeing her entire band dressed up in overstuffed animal costumes was pretty funny, but as usual, the sound mix sounded terrible.

Was the final sketch a repeat from the previous week or from the season premiere? I wondered if maybe they aired something else on the live east coast feed and then by the time it aired here in the west, they'd had to pull something and just replaced it with the rerun.

I was surprised they didn't use her in any of the sketches. I always like it when the musical guest participates in the sketch part of the show, and especially when the musical guest is a hot woman. They couldn't figure out some way to incorporate Katy Perry into the Lady Gaga sketch?

Do you mean the eMeth commercial?

Yes, that was from the season premiere, and yes, they replayed it on the East Coast.

They were running short at the end, so they needed to fill/kill some time. Their SOP in those situations is to just air a previously aired pre-taped segment (although I suspect that a few years back, they made those "Bear City" pre-tapes just for when they needed a time-filler ).

I don't know if you saw it on the West Coast, but the goodnights at the end were longer than usual too, with Bruce looking a little lost on how to stretch it. So even after airing the extra pre-tape, they were still a little short.

Yes, the eMeth commercial. That was the one.

Yes, we saw the goodnights on the west coast. I'm never sure what is considered long and what isn't. I'm always disappointed when they're short, so I guess I just enjoyed that this one actually showed people congratulating each other, etc.

I also remembered another sketch I wanted to comment on. The barbershop one was really lame. I kept expecting some kind of twist at the end where Bruce Willis' character would do something completely opposite of being the boring white guy, but instead it just ended with him leaving to go to a lame concert and nothing funny at all. The writers couldn't come up with anything better than that?

It's definitely long when the host runs out of things to say and just starts looking around wondering when the band is going to kick in.

Yeah, that was bad, especially since it had no payoff.

Also, I was really distracted by Keenan's pretending to cut hair by just waving the comb in the air.

Oh, and Bruce pretty much just phoned this one in.

I think the only time he was genuinely into it was the Lady Gaga sketch. His reaction to the Big Ang picture was priceless.

I was hoping Katy Perry would be in an actual sketch or two. I loves me some Katy Perry. She looked super hawt in her jungle dress.

Well, in the first song, the sound mix was awful enough to make it seem real singing.

The Katy Perry performances were like the worst performance art I had ever seen.
