TV Worth Watching

Here's a thread for all our TV recommendations.

And questions about what's worth watching.

I was browsing the TV series available through Amazon Prime Instant Video, and there's lots there that I'm kinda interested in, but don't know what's worth it.

For example, is "America: The Story of Us" from the History channel worth watching?

I liked America... It was a bit pop-culture, but was interesting.

This thread will turn into an argument about if a show or shows is/are any good, especially controversial ones.

For me anything I watch regularly is worth watching!! That's about 55 shows on my SP List

If you haven't already seen it, I HIGHLY recommend a show called Day Break starring Taye Diggs. It's only 13 episodes, so it's not a huge commitment. Trust me, you'll love it!
Another show I'd recommend is The Booth at the End. It's very cool in a Twilight Zone sort of way. There are two seasons with five episodes each.

At least six of these are not available for free Amazon streaming, but you get a 5 for effort!

House of Cards is Netflix only (unless you meant the British version).

The OP never specifically stated that he was only looking for shows on Amazon Prime. If this is the case, then the thread title should be changed to "TV Worth Watching via Amazon Streaming".

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned It doesn't matter if they're current series, Netflix, Amazon Prime Streaming or whatnot. I just want to know what's worth watching (or not).

Just a thought - Without any kind of guidelines on what you like and what you've already seen and disliked, this just threatens to turn into a list of every TV show ever.

Have you ever seen Avatar: The Last Airbender? If not, it should be high on your list. Brilliant show!

Except for 'Hello, Larry'. Nobody ever thought that was worth watching.

There are some Hello, Larrys on YouTube. They're really not the worst thing ever.

I think the OP should watch EVERY cat video on You Tube. That should keep you busy for awhile Some are actually worth watching!

Seriously, your one show you mentioned was a historical documentary. Is that something you are generally interested in? If so, some of those worth watching would be:

World At War
The War
Ken Burns The Civil War
Ken Burns Baseball
How the States Got their Names (I've only seen a few of these, but many of them are interesting)
The Presidents

Obviously not enough people did, but due to my radio background and liking the star I tried to catch what few episodes made it to air.

Before I watch the rest of it I've got to make sure it doesn't result in a single penny going to ABC.

I'm not interested in rewarding them for only showing me the first half of the season.

To be fair, they did make all the episodes available to stream from their website.

Wait, someone was in that show besides Moon Bloodgood? I never noticed.

It was a very enjoyable show. I never did

Wasn't Day Break a Groundhog Day ripoff? I can't recall if I stuck with it for the entire season. Each episode was a repeat of the previous week with a few new scenes thrown in as the main character started putting the pieces together.

LOL! She never looked better than in that show. Only two more years, and she'll be in the 40+ thread ...

It's been so long since I've watched the show that I honestly can't remember. I've been meaning to go back and watch it again, but the list of shows I need to catch up on just keeps growing and growing. I'm about a quarter of the way through 'The Shield' right now, and the new fall shows are already piling up on my TiVos.

I wouldn't call it a ripoff, but it used the same device to tell the story. One of the reasons the show failed is that you literally HAD to watch every episode in order from the beginning or it made no sense.

Over the last year, I watched and enjoyed the following on Amazon Prime:

The West Wing
Friday Night Lights
Alias
Sons of Anarchy

On HBO GO and HBO On Demand:

The Wire
Treme

Rewatched:

Deadwood
Life
Battlestar Galacttica

I highly recommend them all!

If you enjoyed Season 1, I think you'll enjoy Season 2. It's not as good, but it's still definitely worth watching. The jury is still out on Season 3.

Oh yeah, definitely Justified!

Agree with others on Homeland: 1 - great, 2- good, 3 - so far, not so good. Holding out hope it gets better.

+1 for The West Wing and Friday Night Lights. Alias was good for the first couple of seasons but got rather boring towards the end. I did like the series ending, though.

Longmire isn't bad and definitely worth a look. I also like Justified.

There are a lot of shows that I like to watch, but I don't necessarily think of them as quality TV and mostly just entertaining enough to fill a void. I don't consider all but a handful of shows as really being quality TV these days, especially with all of the crap the networks are trying to foist upon us. Most people apparently just want mindless entertainment and don't really focus on quality anymore and the networks are happy to oblige. How else can you explain the proliferation of "reality" TV shows (aside from the fact they're cheap to produce, which is why the studios love them)? There are lots of cable shows that fit this description that are fun to watch and generally better than the vast majority of network TV shows on average. This includes shows like:

Leverage
White Collar
Falling Skies
Franklin & Bash
Covert Affairs
Always Sunny in Philadelphia
The League
Wilfred
Bates Motel
Mad Men
The Walking Dead
Low Winter Sun
Defiance
Warehouse 13
Louie
Haven
Hell On Wheels
Legit
Lost Girl
Necessary Roughness
Orphan Black
Perception
The Killing
Suits
The Americans
The Bridge
The Glades
The Newsroom
Hello Ladies
Eastbound and Down
Episodes
Shameless
Vikings

Some of the above shows really belong on my A list, but I just lumped all of the cable shows I currently watch and enjoy. There are a few others as well as a lot of network shows, but I thought the above were worth a mention.

Of all of the network TV shows, I think The Good Wife and Hannibal are probably two of the current best, IMHO. Hannibal is extremely dark, but the acting is superb. The Good Wife is the only thing that has me watching any prime time TV on CBS Sunday nights.

Fringe. I can't believe no one's mentioned it yet.

This is a show that'll be worthy of a TCF re-watch in the future!

The new CW series "The Tomorrow People" is worth checking out if you enjoy watching beautiful/handsome young adults with super powers.
