Modern Family 10/2 "Larry's Wife"

Great episode! I just watched this over lunch and kept laughing. I loved all three of the stories (well four if you count the kids) and thought they were done well.

At the movie theatre -

Manny-

Good episode. Lots of funny interactions.

Cam and his phone call- "I'm so excited!!!"

I thought the stuff with Gloria trying to get the exorcism on Fulgencio was pretty silly, but other than that I enjoyed the episode. Especially the showdown of all of Phil's clients at the grocery store, and Claire hanging him out to dry.

This is the worst episode that I can remember. Not up to the usually high level.

That was great. Her swooping in to save him. And I guess to make sure he sold some houses and paid some bills.

Save him? I would have said "mock and ridicule".

So I apparently entered into the dirty old man stage. My wife and I were watching it together last night and I commented on Ariel Winter's figure. My wife advised me she was still a kid. Surely not, I said to her.

Yeah, she's 15. I had no idea she was that young, I had just assumed she was another 20 something playing a kid on TV.

I was wondering if she's had some augmentation done. And I knew she was still a minor.

I commented last week that she was looking a little chubby. My wife said she was chubby last season, too.

I got the impression she's getting more curvy than they are ready for playing a kids role, especially the nerdy younger sister. So they're dressing her in bulky sweaters. That's pretty much the only reason to wear that type of clothing in southern CA in early September.

Disney had the same issue with Annette

It was my wife who commented on it, and I think I said something like, "Yeah, it looks like they're no longer trying to hide the fact that her breasts are huge."
Nothing "dirty old man" about commenting on it, as long as you're not drooling and saying something along the lines of wanting to "do her." And, believe it or not, that's not a wise thing to say in front of your wife no matter what the age of the actress.

No, I think she saw he was in over his head and wanted to help out. Oh there was some comments said with a twist to them but not for the other ladies to know, just between her and Phil.

Not sure I'm comfortable calling a 15 year old fat (now Leah Remini? ) but I kind of think it was an awkward wardrobe choice to keep her young looking as others have mentioned (although its weird to attempt to keep a kid young looking when she actually is, you know, young). I swung by her twitter (not to be creepy) and I didn't see anything that made her look significantly overweight. But I guess we'll see in upcoming episodes.

And so I can make this post not entirely about a 15 year olds looks, I agree with those who felt Claire was saving Phil (in the other ladies eyes) while simultaneously proving her point to him.

I finally found out who this Leah Remini that you guys keep referring to is on Dancing with the Stars. I would always see the thread-Leah Remini Fat?--and wonder who the heck she was.

And she's not.....

I think we saw Larry before as the subject of Dylan's song lyric: The tiny pink panther

“So many years living life underwater. Came up for air in the room of your daughter. Never knew I would find my answer, in my ex-girlfriend’s uncles’ house, with the tiny pink panther.”

That thread was created when she had recently had a baby and was taking a little while to lose the extra lbs. and some insensitive soul thought she should be losing the weight faster. But it's turned into a very amusing thread.

Right with you. I just didn't find any storyline funny. Not many memorable lines either. Phil has a few of his usual complementary lines to his wife.

So the one guy gets stuck in a vent 6 feet off the ground and can't lower his 5 foot 9 body down to drop the last 3 inches?

I've seen the dead kid's pet funeral done better quite a few times. Even the twist of it being the pet's spouse didn't make it funny.

Great seeing Amy Yasbeck again, according to IMDb she's been getting work, but honestly I don't think I've seen any acting from her since John Ritter's death.

My wife and I both noticed the recent, uh... developments, in the younger actress's life. That's happened quite a bit over the years to many actresses, I specifically remember Jan Brady growing quite a bit over a summer. I remember another one not too long ago as well. (Dr. Greene's daughter on ER maybe?)

Her situation is kinda sad and her putting on some weight is somewhat understandable. One of the things her overbearing mother was strict about was her caloric intake. So when Ariel's sister got custody of her, I'm sure she let her eat what she wanted. Hopefully she'll balance it out a bit.

yeah, he can't lower his body because that's his character

he's nonathletic
have you never seen this show before ?

and "the twist of it being the pet's spouse didn't make it funny"

were you even watching THIS episode ?

the point of the funeral was that he was going overboard with it

he was taking something that should have been a simple "shoe box buried in the backyard" and turned it in to a major event

like at the end when a freaking choir was walking into the house -- for a pet funeral
that's what made it funny

and that's Cam's character, he's always theatrical, goes overboard with everything

Athletic enough to climb up onto chairs and ladders and desks to clean a vent. It was stupid and totally unfunny for 12 minutes of the 20 minute show. He was athletic enough to climb himself up into the vent.

The funeral was just stupid. Zero funny. I get it. Cam is an over the top flamboyant gay guy. All he needed was guys dressed in cowboy hats with assless chaps.

I thought this show started off strong this year with the 1 hour but this episode was flat, boring and unfunny.

This was the worst episode of Modern Family in it's short history.

The show started in 2009, I don't think you can call that a short history.

I also don't agree that it was the worst episode. Maybe not one to tickle your taste buds, but many others, myself included found it funny. It comes down to different things make people laugh.

I found the fake cat funeral made me chuckle and when the sprinkler went off I was laughing. I wasn't crazy about the whole cursed baby thing that was going on but it is just a sum part of the whole.

Also, if the males in Gloria's family are cursed, what about Manny?
