Have they pushed it back to Sept now, see that date on all the crappy looking stuff they plan on having.

And oddly enough, they've now announced that they're turning the Style network, not G4, into the Esquire network.

http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/09/09/st...quire-network/

No word on what they'll do with G4, which has been running Esquire Network teaser commercials, and which hasn't had any new programming for most of the year.

Is it just me or does Comcast not have a clue how to run a network?

Actually it makes sense from their viewpoint. Style overlapped with three of their other female skewing channels, E!, Bravo and Oxygen. Style is in 75 million homes vs the 62 million homes for G4, so it makes much more sense to them to take over Style than G4.

I don't dispute that. What I'm a little baffled by is their planning, or seeming lack thereof.

They announce they are replacing G4 with Esquire, and commence the process by canceling production on all the shows on the network and begin to roll promos for the new network. Only then do they change their mind and push back the launch to September, leaving a shell of a network running essentially on autopilot.

Then, mere weeks before the revised launch date, after promos began to run again advertising the new network/launch date, they change their mind AGAIN and decide to blow up Style instead.

Worse yet, the best that they can say is that G4 will continue as is. As is? In other words, a shambling zombie network?

Yeah, while it makes more sense for them to displace Style rather than G4, they should have done it from the start. I'm curious if the change has anything to do with the leadership shake up over there.

Hmm

If it's SD only, it's a non-starter. I get G4 in HD.

Status quo, for now. Of course, "status quo" isn't saying much, since the channel axed all their original programming about 6 months ago, and seemingly hasn't purchased any additional second-run programming to show for at least that long or longer. So, "status quo" just means continuing the cycle of the same old repeats over, and over, and over...

I can't imagine they'll spin the network back up as G4. What they end up doing with it in the long run is anyone's guess.

Wonder what happens to American Ninja Warrior? (I almost wondered about GameTrailers.com, but confirmed that's on Spike, not G4!)

Yup. Far as I know, it is now first run NBC, second run G4.

I thought there were extra episodes on G4 that weren't on NBC. NBC was just showing some of them as first run.

Yeah, I should have made that clear. For the past week or two, they have ONLY been on NBC (rerun on G4).

But for most of the previous weeks, each week's "show" was really split across G4 & NBC. Basically, it was a 2 hour "episode", one half on G4 and one half on NBC. (I don't literally mean it's part of the same episode, of course each show had an opening and closing.. But each week, G4 + NBC combined were covering one competition -- trials in a certain city.)

I checked. I do get it. And in HD. For some reason, I thought it was on a extra pay tier along with stuff like Cooking Channel.

The station appears to run Sex and the City and America's Next Top Model.

I'm more of a Sara Underwood, err.., fan. Also, bring back Alison Haislip and Grace Hilbig, I really missed them.

According to this article from yesterday:

G4 is going to continue unchanged for the foreseeable future

Quote:
Of course, the announcement that the male-centric network will no longer replace G4 has attracted some interest as to NBCUniversal’s intentions for the video gamers network. For now, the party line is that it will remain status quo.

“G4 is going to continue unchanged for the foreseeable future. So as of right now, it’s going to continue as is,” Stotsky said. “We’re focused on Monday’s debut of Esquire Network.”

Well, FWIW, G4 seems to be gone from Time Warner here as well. It's still listed on the guide, but tuning to the channels (SD and HD) report "Channel not provided by the tuning adapter."

I just flipped over there and G4 is still on U-Verse. It is currently airing a Heroes episode including a G4 bug in the bottom right of the screen. What was funny is that when I first flipped over there, it was on an Esquire Network commercial.

It kinda sucks. Suddenlink is keeping this channel on, I almost wish they'd drop it and add something else since G4 is in a higher channel tier. I'd rather have a new channel than the shell of this one. At least when it was changing to Esquire I'd get it in HD (Style is SD only for us).

What doesn't make sense is why NBCU isn't trying to do something with this channel. Why not do something similar to FXX and just show a bunch of the stuff they own. Parks and Rec, The Office, Community and then movies. Sort of a USA 2 or something. Instead they are letting it rot away and loosing that space in many cable systems.

Or, in the manner of FXX, how about "USAA"? Wait, that name is taken.

I know you were only using them as examples, but: "Parks and Rec" is on FXX and WGN America, and "The Office" is on TBS -- I can't see the business interests at NBC/Universal/Comcast wanting to dilute those brands by expanding them to another cable network (and the contracts they're under may preclude that anyway).

And NBC doesn't own "Community" -- it's owned by Sony (and it's rerunning on Comedy Central).

Fair enough, I just want another channel to watch all those shows on. Anyway I just don't get letting this channel go stagnant and basically encouraging cable companies to drop it.
