Question about It's Always Sunny

Thinking of watching this for the first time. Should I start from the beginning, or skip to season 2 when Danny DeVito's character is introduced?

Might as well start at the beginning. Season one is only 7 half hour episodes.

I liked season 1. If fact, when it was revealed that Danny DeVito was coming on the show I wasn't too happy. I thought they would tame the show down for such a big star. Little did I know he was even more depraved than the rest of them.

I agree the show got better in S2 when he joined. S2-S6 is probably the best years.

Just so you know, once you watch a few early episodes you can jump around without missing much. You can start with the new episodes and maybe a joke or two will not make sense and go back and catch up while keeping up with the new stuff. This show is out there. Be prepared to be shocked. These characters say and do things that will rub many people the wrong way. It is beyond hilarious.

The one where Dee learns to dance still makes me laugh.

My favorite remains "Dennis and Dee Go On Welfare" (season 2). It was already clear the show was pushing the envelope, this one ripped the envelope to shreds and threw away the pieces.

Using spoiler tags if necessary, can someone explain (if they ever explained it) why Mac got fat and then later lost the weight?

"Nightman" is one of my favorites. But really... they're all good. And any episode with Cricket is usually killer. Like the one with the storm that's threatening Philly.

Spoiler:
I don't think there was a "reason" for it other than he wanted to have a Fat Mac storyline and decided to gain the weight.

You apparently missed the episode "How Mac Got Fat".

I think my favorite episode is either "The Gang Solve the Gas Crisis" or "The Nightman Cometh"

In real life, I remember reading that Rob McElhenney thought it would be funny if they all gained massive amounts of weight during the off-season, and were all huge for the season opener.

But no one else went for it, so he did it by himself.

Spoiler:
At the start of season 7, Mac has gained at least 50 pounds of fat, which he delusionally sees as a step to developing muscle ("cultivating mass" in his words) in order to go from "a tiny twink to [a] muscle-bound freak." In the episode "How Mac Got Fat", he goes into greater detail about his intentions, explaining that earlier, the Gang had decided to replace themselves with avatars to run Paddy's Pub so they could slack off. Mac's avatar was a bodybuilder. When Dee points out that the avatar doesn't look like him because he has more muscle, Mac starts gaining weight in an attempt to become the same size as the bodybuilder. Eventually the Gang drops the avatar plan and everything goes back to normal, but Mac is stuck with his dangerous weight gain.

My favorites are when they buy the P-Diddy shrimping boat and Who Got Dee Pregnant.

Really enjoying this. I'm up to season 7 now. You guys were right, once you know the characters you can basically watch in any order. I've been watching the old eps in order, and watching the new eps as they air.

Question about Dee: The Gang is always saying how ugly and bird like she is. I think she's hot. Am I crazy?

I think she is hot too.

Two interesting things in real life, if you didn't know it -

Rob McElhenney (Mac) is married to Kaitlin Olson (Dee).

and

Charlie Day (Charlie) is married to Mary Elizabeth Ellis (The Waitress).

Kaitlin is both a hottie and hilarious! The three stooges who created "Sunny in Phillie" were on Conan recently and talked about Rob falling in love with Kaitlin during the second season. Glenn was afraid it would ruin the chemistry of the cast and destroy the show. Charlie thought they were lucky to get more than one season, so he was good with it (much like his character). If you can, check out their recent appearance on Conan.

BTW, they said that there will be a (final) Season 10.

OK could use some help. For my 40th birthday party I want to get a Frank Reynolds t-shirt with his face and either his quote on front or back saying "I don't know how many years on this Earth I got left. I'm going to get really weird with it."

This is all I can come up with:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-tshir...item2a28a94bad

You have to create the logo and have it custom made. This seems like a fairly simple design and shouldn't be too hard to create.

Quick and crappy - font should match the show's typeface. Found a decent illustration on GIS:
