'Beware the Batman' - New cartoon series

FYI,

Batman returns to TV in a new animated series, debuting July 13th on Cartoon Network. Looks like it's completely CGI.

Quote:
A cool, new take on the classic Dark Knight franchise, Beware the Batman incorporates Batman's core characters with a rogues gallery of new villains not previously seen in animated form. Along with backup from ex-secret agent Alfred and lethal swordstress Katana, the Dark Knight faces the twisted machinations of Gotham City's criminal underworld led by the likes of Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad and Magpie.

I remember seeing a trailer for this months ago. I always love a new Marvel or DC animated series.

Wasn't this supposed to premiere at the same time as Teen Titans Go?

If so, that's a hell of a delay! Teen Titans Went over half a decade ago!

Not "Teen Titans", but "Teen Titans Go" (which is the name of the comic book based on the earlier TV series) - it has the same cast (and, in fact, the same voices), but it is drawn in a much brighter and simpler animation style, and the stories deal with what they do inside of the tower rather than fighting villains. (Example: in one story, they argue over who has to do the laundry; in another, when Starfire kills a bug that she then thinks was Beast Boy, Beast Boy makes her think that he is a ghost.)

I don't like the CGI style. I will not be watching this. I love old style like the Justice League.

Really? I thought it was HORRIBLE.

Not a fan of CGI series. Not cuz of the CGI. But because it seems like they all are sub par. I really enjoyed Young Justice and the story telling that series did recently. I will give BtB a look of course but not holding my breath.

I actually enjoyed the green lantern CGI series, which has apparently ended. I'll probably watch this too.

+1

It started off slow, but toward the end, it really picked up. I found the finale very touching. Made my tween daughter cry.

I'm still upset with DC for canceling Young Justice to replace it with the drek that is Teen Titans Go. That also had a very emotional finale. Best DC animated series since the Justice League.

I see Simon Stagg was in the pilot episode. So will Metamorpho show up at some point?

Isn't nearly all animation now CGI? Even South Park is now generated on a computer.

Don't confuse CGI with "made on computers". In CGI, everything, including the backgrounds, is rendered as a set of digital objects. This is not how The Simpsons or Family Guy are animated; they are "hand drawn", but the drawings are now done directly on computers rather than on acetate cels. (Also, most of the vehicles on Family Guy are 3D models; this makes it much easier to move and rotate them.)

I doubt that South Park is CGI, especially as it still takes quite a bit of time to create the CGI images themselves (it still takes years to make a CGI movie) and the show has a quick turnaround time in order to get current event references into the show.

If you've already deleted your SP, revive it!

I'm not sure what the "final 7" are since CN only aired 11 out of 24 episodes before pulling the show back in October of last year.

They've been airing the remainder of the episodes as part of AS since July of this year. They just aired episode 19 last week. SP needs to be set to record repeats to get it.

11 out 26 episodes.

If they are going to air episodes 20-26, that would be the final 7.

Although those episodes have been available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and other sources for weeks now.

The second part of Season 2 comes out on Blu-Ray and DVD on September 30.

I didn't know it was on Adult Swim. They just announced the final 7 episode thing and I thought some here would be interested.

So I guess that means they have guide data showing they already aired? Looks like I only watched 4 of them, I think I have a few more still recorded.

I only see *one* scheduled for *Sunday* at 2:30 AM.

Me too, but it was only announced yesterday so I was going to see if the guide data catches up before then.

CGI is actually what allows them to have such a quick turnaround time. It played a big role in getting them down to making an episode in one week rather than a few.

Having all the characters as models allows them to be animated simply by moving the models on the computer rather than drawing them by hand or animating physical cardboard cutouts, which is what they were originally doing.
