Carson on TCM

Truly stumbled upon this tonight. A series of 25 interviews on Monday nights. First night was good. I missed Drew Barrymore but really liked Kirk Douglas and George Burns.

My only complaint is that on my machine, it was scheduled as five 12-minute shows rather than one 60-minute show, and every interview got clipped by my DVR.

But they were fantastic.

I guess you could do a manual time record? I really don't know.

This really shows how 1. Carson was by far the best late night talk show host and 2. How the stars really opened up and respected him.

Of course, part of that was it really was the only real option for late night comedy for many years.

I can and will, but I didn't last night. Hopefully they will rerun - save-to-DVD worthy.

Just a heads up, the next 5 episodes are on tonight:

Doris Day (1976)
Charlton Heston (1976)
Chevy Chase (1986)
Steve Martin (1979)
Tony Curtis (1973)

Not really. Dick Cavett, Joey Bishop, Arsenio Hall, Merv Griffin all took turns trying to compete with Johnny. There were probably some others as well that I'm not thinking of.

I set up a season pass on my 4 tuner Premiere. I told it to start 1 min early and end 2 min late. What a pain this is going to be. I can not believe they made this into five 12 min shows per hour!

Watched last nights installments and really enjoyed them. Sorry I didn't know about this in time to see last weeks! Donna Reed discussing porno and advocating living together before getting married was quite a surprise.

It was Doris Day, not Donna Reed.

You're absolutely right. I don't know what I was thinking. I guess they both have that squeaky clean thing going on and I got the names confused.

Chevy Chase.

Sorry, my point was there were only a couple of channels. Where now there is a whole host of choices.

I got it. The list you guys are compiling was over about two decades. And few lasted long at all. Carson was on 30 years. Even if we list 30 alternatives, that is spread over 30 years.

Wife and I have watched the last two weeks. Ten interviews. There is no one as good as Carson. No. One. Not even close.

So many highlights, so many incredible moments. Laughs, shocks, even some serious stuff. Robin Williams, Ronald Reagan, Jonathan Winters.

I pad each episode two minutes each way, just to make sure.

If you are 50 or over, you absolutely have to watch these. So many memories.
