Emergency Alert - Can I cancel out of the screen? Opt-out entirely?

Over the past hour, I've tried to watch a pre-recorded program. I've been interrupted... four times now... with full screen/audio emergency alerts for a tornado warning in some county that is at least 100 miles away. And those aren't even heading this direction.

I try EVERY button on my remote, and nothing works. I'm locked into the warning for two minutes or so until they finally get bored of talking and release control of the TiVo back to me. Then I have to go back and play the recording, only to be interrupted again 15 minutes later.

My cell phone only bugs me for things in my immediate area, and even then, they allow me to opt-out of certain types of alerts. So I don't need my TiVo chiming in and telling me to panic immediately.

Is there some way to abort an emergency alert so that my TiVo isn't locked up for the whole duration of the message? Is there some way to opt-out of the whole thing so that my TiVo doesn't do the alerts at all?

Thanks.

No, there isn't. The alert is coming from your cable company. See http://support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/364

what channel are you watching local or national depending on the feed they might not be able to show the warning only in the effected area.

I do not believe that this and tests and alerts CAN be stopped, but this is not TIVO's fault. Even a Set Top Box does this.

At least you're getting the EAS messages. I get the non-responsive TiVo and don't get the message. Are you on Time Warner Cable?

If there were some way to disable EAS entirely, I would do it in a flash.

Kind of sucks when you are recording something and the messages come on test or otherwise. Especially if it is something that is only broadcast once or you only discover it a month later when you go to watch it.

The other is I tend to watch a lot late at night with headphones so I don't disturb anybody. Immediately that high pitched tone will come on. It is very loud and hurts my hears. I think for at least a test give a lower tone at first or just silence so we can prepare.

Unplugging/unscrewing the cable for a moment has worked for me.
