Using Tivo Mini in an outdoor Pavillion

So I have an outdoor Pavilion and I want to install an outdoor TV and Tivo Mini. Anyone use a Tivo Mini outside? It would be covered of course under the roof of the Pavilion. Do you think it would hold up?

Location might help,
outdoors in Saskatchewan might not be good, NC might be fine.

But the mini asks for a wired connection, can you get that out to the location?

You can use a wireless Bridge with it. If your wireless network is setup properly you will have no issues. The user experience will be just like using a wired connection. If the wireless network is setup properly.

I'm sure experiencing the wider variety of humidity and temp will shorten its lifespan.... but since we dont have any data on the overall longevity of Mini's since they're brand new, you might be shaving six months off of a ten year lifespan, or halving a five year lifespan. Your guess is as good as mine.

My Roku has been out in the garage since 2011 and has not had any issues but then I only paid $70 for it. It's a different story when you pay $250. I'm not sure I would do the same with a Mini.

I am in NJ and I will either run a COAX cable or an HDMI cable out to the Pavilion. If it's COAX then I need to Tivo Mini out there. If it's HDMI then I can have my Tivo Mini inside with a remote control extender.

Based on your location I would run HDMI and an extender out there. We have a TV in our shack and it works fine, but I worry that the lifespan is being reduced by being out in the elements. I would think in NJ that you are going to be even worse off. If you have the ability to run HDMI that makes things a lot easier. And, in a weird way, it makes things more secure. Nobody can steal the mini.

I just wouldn't have electronics out there unless they are very specifically designed for it. What about when there's a blowing rainstorm?

Thanks for the tip on that. I ordered one on Friday and should have a report back by the weekend if everything goes well.

I have it set up and the HDMI streaming works, but the TiVo remote is having issues. More work to go on this one, will post up later.

No, tried it at night, same issue. I have determined that TiVo uses a dual band IR and the repeater in the wireless HDMI unit must be single band. I ordered a dual band and should have it mid week. My wife, who initially was giving me grief (because I always try these projects) was just saying she wanted to know why we don't have TiVo in the shack yet.

Dual Band. Interesting. Good to know!
