About $99 Lifetime

Has anyone had any luck getting the $99 lifetime offer recently? I called to cancel but they would only do lifetime for $200. I got my Series3 HD in 2009, do you guys think it's a good deal or should I call again and try a different rep? I am on the yearly plan of $129 so I would pay $70 extra for the lifetime sub.

The $99 Lifetime offer for S3s is generally for people who are buying (or have already bought) a Premiere.

You can try your luck with a different CSR, but I don't think you'll get very far.

Edit: In your situation, I think $200 for lifetime is a pretty good deal. That's half off of the MSD price.

Rep wouldn't give me any discount on lifetime when dumping my S3 to buy a Premiere...full $499. Needless to say I didn't buy a Premiere. I'll wait for awhile and try after the first of the year....

steve614 and fobia79,

I think you are referring to our S3 Non-Product Lifetime Service Upgrade Offer, which would be the closest promotion to what you said. In most cases, these types of promotions are for new Series 4 Premiere customers, not existing. I cannot guarantee your eligibility, but this is the most pertinent information that I was able to find.

Please note:
This offer is just for the Series3 HD TiVo model DVR and not TiVo HD and HD XL. Please note also that is offer is not valid for any account that has any kind of Series 4 Premiere (XL/4/XL4) already on it.

Series 3 Non-PLS Upgrade Offer:
-$399.99 for Premiere XL4 DVR (standalone box with no service)Transfer current service plan to Premiere XL4
-FREE MoCA Network Adapter ($49.99)
-FREE POE filter ($8.99)
-$99.99 PLS for current Series3 DVR

This is a limited-time offer and is only available until 1/31/13.

Not everyone is eligible for it, if you have questions or are interested in this, or any other promotions we are running, I would strongly advise calling us or sending us an email on our support site. It might be just the thing for you.

Thanks!

Haven't you learned by now to use the TCD numbers to make sure people know to which model you refer?

I have a TCD648250. On the front it says Series 3 and HD.

I have a TCD652160. On the front it says Series 3 and HD.

Which one is the Series 3 HD and how is the average user/owner to know?

And what the h311 is non-product lifetime service?

Is it lifetime service on a non-product?

Is it non-lifetime service on a product?

(and wouldn't that be called a monthly subscription?)

And if you really work for TiVo why did all of those other posts of yours disappear?

In my experience, the premiere needs to already be on your account in order to get the $99 lifetime on a Series 3 or a TiVo HD. I got a $99 lifetime on a series 3 (648) at the end of October 2012 and a $99 lifetime on a TiVo HD (652) in August.

I bought a used Premiere with lifetime off of ebay and added it to my account and tried to get full lifetime put on a Toshiba DVD Tivo, but they wouldn't do it. Said that it had to be a box that received a 'offer' of $99 email. Odd, you would think that Tivo would want $99 instead of nothing, as that is what they are getting. As I am not going to pay a monthly fee to get 2 weeks programing instead of 3 days that I don't have to pay for.
Rep' said that if a box does have a $99 offer on it on eBay or Craigslist then Tivo is honoring those even for a 2nd owner.

About a month ago, as part of the purchase of a XL4 for $399, I asked about PLS on my S3 OLED. The TiVo agent offered $99.
I make the purchases at that time. Soon after that purchase, TiVo dropped price on Elite $50.
So I called and asked if I could get that discount; they said yes.

I was pretty happy about it too.

I did.

I got one from Jacob that was either an answer to someone else entirely who is planning a Premiere purchase, or an attempt to baffle me with BS.

Nowhere did he address his failure to be specific about model numbers.

Nowhere did he explain what non-product service is.

I have a Tivo Elite. I also have two Tivo HDs on my account. All of these tivos have lifetime service. I called to add another Tivo HD to my account and the rep and the supervisor both told me that they would not offer me the $99 without buying another Premiere. I have been a member for 8 years. I was a bit surprised that they would prefer that I junk the Tivo HD than giving them $99 for the unit. The tivo HD unit that I got from my neighbor had not been used in well over 2 years.

from what i under stand its bc they need to swap a MSD to the premiere to make the HD eligible for the 99 lifetime....

this is how it worked for me. they took my service from my HD and placed it on my XL4, then used that to make my HD qualify for the 99.00 lifetime. then used that to make the premiere qualify for the 9.95 per month MSD.

I did the same thing last month. Moved $6.95 service to a Premiere 45-hour box and got $99 lifetime on the TiVo HD. (And then I sold the TiVo HD for $370.)

I just bought a XL4 and got $99 lifetime my TivoHD when I ordered lifetime for the XL4. Keeping the TivoHD activated was basically "free" with the multi-service discount.

[QUOTE do you guys think it's a good deal or should I call again and try a different rep? .[/quote]

Heck yea, that is a good deal, I paid 299 for my old dvr several years ago, and now I was looking for the same deal. Can't seem to find that. Do you have to threaten to cancel to get it?

I think the $99 deal started when some Series 3 units (not sure if original or HD/HD XL) that had 3 year plans bought when lifetime wasn't available reached the end of the 3 years and people called to cancel renewal.

From there it spread to people buying S4s and wanting to cancel their S3s.

But there seems to be some CSR roulette involved.

I was in exactly this situation last June (2012) and when I threatened to cancel I was offered $99 lifetime, after the rep went offline a while to "get it approved" . I have no other TiVos and threatened to just go with a cable co DVR. My theory is TiVo is taking into account that a TiVo purchased in 2009 or earlier is likely to fail soon due to HDD or power supply failure, and for most users this means the box will be scrapped. (I don't believe most users are likely to use the DIY upgrades that are discussed on this forum.) Thus TiVo is gambling that they average more revenue taking your $99 one time against the probability that you will scrap your box right now rather than continue paying $129/year. (After all you called to cancel right? )

I think the odds are fairly good that $200 lifetime on a 2009 HD will be a good deal. If you don't plan to fix it yourself (when the HDD or power supply fails), you can probably recover quite a bit anyway by sellling it on ebay, since the lifetime sub adds a lot of value even for a broken unit. DIY'ers will buy it and fix it.

It might be worth waiting a while then calling TiVo again. I also suspect that the response varies with CSR.

Pull this up to the top just to say it's still available for 'Upgrades" at least.

Ordered 2 Premieres last week under "Free Premiere + 24 month commitment plan" and called to cancel my 2 TivoHD $9.99/month subs. Almost immediately was offered the $99 Lifetime deal for my both TIVOHD's and transfer the Premieres to the 12.99/month plan. Took about 2 seconds to accept and say thank you since I've been denied the LIFETIME a couple times over the last few months without having the Premieres in hand. Without that offer I would surely would have been out of the TIVO business completely except for the old Series 2 single tuner with Lifetime that still going strong after 8 years

Now, the question is to keep the Premieres or return them while I'm under the "30 Day Trial."

Sounds too much like a free lunch to me. What if TiVo revokes your lifetime subs when you return the Premieres?

It's possible, but that hasn't happened to others at least as far as I'm aware of -- when I was read the terms of Lifetime I don't remember there being any caveats on maintaining service on the Premieres. I'm not sold entirely on the any advantages of the Premiere, but I'll take a look at it for a couple weeks and then decide. Worst case scenario is I'm back to where I started at

This is not my listing. Interesting that this is not the only Premiere on eBay that says that you can buy lifetime for $199 for their Premieres.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TiVo-Premier...item1e7a87cd42
"Buyer may continue service at $14.99 per month OR pay $199 for LIFETIME service."
