Exactly.

By "the rest" I meant the rest of Gates' actions. Or as someone said: "Gates, on the other hand, did act like an idiot trying to make the department look good." I could see her trying to make the department look good, but how she did it was totally unconvincing. She was the most our of character, for me.

I thought Becket and Ryan were very much in character.

And Castle :-)
But I may be incapable of disliking Nathan Fillion in anything.

Well, yeah. Not totally mugging for the camera would have been totally un-Castle-like!

I'm going to join the "disliked" group. A lot of it was almost painful to watch.
(There were a few parts I ended up muting it and turned on closed captions to partially insulate me from the annoyance)

I don't recall ANY scenes where the characters didn't seem to be aware that they were being filmed. Even when it wasn't full-on shakey-cam, things were oddly cropped as though they were cramped and people were acting as though everything were "on the record". I'm in the crowd that thinks that ever bit was supposed to be part of the "documentary" footage.

Why is it every drama has to have an obligatory documentary episode? Is it in the same contract that requires science fiction shows to have a groundhog day episode?

Wait, what shows have had a Groundhog Day episode? (Ignoring that short lived series that I still intend to get back to some day that I think was entirely Groundhog Day episodes…)

By "groundhog day" episode, I believe Shakhari just means any episode that revolves around repeating a period of time over and over, such as ST:TNG's "Cause and Effect."

There's a list of shows that have had a "Groundhog Day" time loop epsode on TV Tropes:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph...oundhogDayLoop

And yes, "Tru Calling" (that short-lived series you refer to) was entirely Groundhog Day Loops.

No, Tru Calling wasn't the show I meant.. I guess I have to try that one out. Oh, I thought it had a one word title, but it doesn't..

Ahh... yeah, that one fits the Groundhog Day model as well, probably better than Tru Calling.

I thought in the Groundhog Day model, a character gets to learn and apply what they learn from day to day.

Though if it's only a "what if?", then I think of that more like a Christmas Carol or "It's a Wonderful Life"

But if it's just different points of view of the same event, I think of that more like Rashomon.

I think most of you lost the whole intend of the show. It was very funny seeing them out of character. And I thought they made it look as though they were talking to us not the camera.

I think we understood the intent just fine - some of us just didn't like it.

Didn't care for this episode or the one that followed it yesterday (Nov. 19). I don't think it's because Castle and Beckett are now together, I think it's because the writers are getting sloppy in general. The show's lost a certain zip to it.

This time of year they always have special episodes (holidays) and to me, shows often lose something when they go for those episodes.
