Charter gave up on TiVo

Just got this e-mail from Charter:

Looks like Charter gave up on TiVo and is going back to an in-house solution.

Ouch.

TiVo and your TV provider's goals are very different so it's not surprising that these relationships are rocky or don't work out. Each wants control of the "experience" and have completely different ideas about what that experience should be like. With the biggest sticking point being how to make and who makes money on the experience.

Word is that TiVo will be the software solution that charter is talking about. Just not on the premiere boxes.

Yeah, but I don't see anything in all their talk about a better viewing experience about being able to copy shows to big interchangeable hard drives on a computer so that you can really watch when you want to where you want to.

Or being able to buy the hardware and a lifetime sub for it and be done with monthly payments, or be able to resell it to someone else if you want.

This is all about the customer, or make that subscriber, providing a better experience to Charter, not the other way around.

And the real customers are the advertisers.
