Blake's 7 Picked Up by SyFy

Yes, rumors have swirled for a long time. But here's something from Deadline.com:

http://www.deadline.com/2012/08/syfy...rtin-campbell/

Quote:
The cable network will develop the remake, which will be written by Joe Pokaski (Heroes) and directed by feature helmer Martin Campbell (Casino Royale). The project was taken out to US networks last month by Georgeville, the independent TV studio co-founded earlier this year by Leon Clarance of Motion Picture Capital, the financing arm of Reliance Entertainment, and producer Marc Rosen. Blake’s 7 has a script-to-series commitment, meaning that if Syfy likes the script, it will greenlight the project as a 13-episode series.

Probably in the minority, but I never liked the original... maybe the remake will better suit my tastes.

Boo to you. Blake's 7 is the only show the comes close to Trek. It's got cardboard sets, has dud episodes (so does Trek), but overall, it's a wonderful series.

I LOVED the original! Unfortunately, the time slot was very late on Sunday night and I didn't stay awake for all the episodes (It either followed the Doctor at 11, or the Doctor started at 11 ... can't remember!)

This was the first time I remember a show having an actual conclusion - and I only knew about that because a co-worker's son had seen it when they lived in England. He was surprised that I was watching it and we discussed it fairly often. He mentioned that I'd know when the last ep was on because *spoilers* ....so when I saw the clue he gave me, I was up til the wee small hours of the morning watching it!

According to one report, that "conclusion" was a cliffhanger.
Spoiler:
They just wanted people to think that everybody had died. You never actually see Avon get shot, now do you?

Spoiler:
Although the sounds of weapons fire as the credits roll is quite suggestive.

First time *you remember*.. But AFAIK, "The Fugitive" (~15 years before the end of "Blake's 7) was the first show to have a conclusion, though that might just be the "well known" case.

(Heck, "The Andy Griffith Show" had Andy leave town, though I don't exactly know if that was the last episode then "Mayberry, RFD" started up directly with no bridging..)

Spoiler:
There is a book called "Afterlife", which continues the story.. http://www.amazon.com/Afterlife-Blak.../dp/B001GDUEY2

Unfortunately, while my mother watched The Fugitive and I could hear some of the dialog from the living room to my room, it was after my 9 pm bedtime!

Ha I saw it on PBS many many years ago (only a few years after it originally aired) Thought it was awesome for 2 reasons that I guess I'll have to Spoilerize

Spoiler:
The title character actor left after the first season but they still continued on for 2-3 more seasons

Spoiler:
As has been alluded to, everyone dies at the end (OK possibly not everyone, but still..) - but to me it was great how episode after episode they were able to get themselves out of tight jams in the nick of time, then when it was time to end it all they all got shot within ~30 seconds of each other - quite the turnaround from all being heroes to suddenly all being zeroes

I thought Blake didn't disappear until after the 2nd season.

Didn't the same thing happen in the show Forever Knight? It had a definite ending. In the last episode, Lovejoy packed up and left on his own.
