Were the ratings worse than that Paul Reiser show from last season? I can't remember the title.

IMDB is often wrong.

NBC is their own worst enemy. This show has some serious potential, but they made -zero- effort to use it. Look at how ABC handled Happy Endings--mid-season replacement, given a chance, promoted decently, well-written, then brought back the next season and given a chance at some real character development. And now it's a hit.
NBC, OTOH, dumps this show with no chance for survival, up against monster hits (Modern Family, anyone?), gives it no PR, and writes it off before it airs.
And they're wrong.
This show was funny, with some great characters. The chemistry between Amanda Peete & David Walton was fun to watch, and the crew was a nice blend of wacky characters. The side characters were even well cast--Jeffrey Tambor, Screwsie and the little girl. I would love to see what the writers could do with a full season order.
NBC is run by idiots.

This is pretty similar to what happened with Seinfeld. That show would never have gotten a chance today on NBC. The first season was awful. For whatever reason, NBC let it continue.....

Yes. Here's what TV By The Numbers had to say the day after Bent premiered:

ABC repeats helped NBC's Whitney and Chelsea up two tenths and three tenths to 1.6 and 1.4 adults 18-49 ratings respectively. But that didn't help Bent which premiered dismally with a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating - even worse than last year's premiere of The Paul Reiser Show. It was NBC's lowest-rated in season comedy premiere ever. It's time period premiere at 9:30 drew a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating.

Totally agree. This was a great show with lots of chemistry and tons of potential. By far the best comedy NBC has premiered this season, better than Whitney, Chelsea, Free Agents, Up All Night, and Best Friends Forever. I would have liked to have seen where this went, but now we'll never know, because NBC is a bunch of idiots.

But weren't all eps against Modern Family RERUNS?
OK, maybe the rest of the world isn't like us.. but I checked this out largely because there were far fewer conflicts than usual since we were mostly in rerun season (March Madness + general reruns so they have more for sweeps).
This show sure was a lot better than whatever other pilot I watched.. where the friend got dumped and moved back with her friend & friend's husband. That was very blah. (The little bit of "The B in Apartment 27" or whatever it's called -- free on Amazon -- was better than the other pilot, not as good as Bent.)

Here is an article trying to explain what NBC did with this show.
http://www.vulture.com/2012/04/why-i...s-of-bent.html
I was thinking it might enlighten us to some special circumstances unique to Bent. Nothing in the article makes me think NBC did anything but screw up here.
I will take their word on double stacking episodes but everything else they did not so much. Plus to savvy viewers double episodes of a new show often mean dumping.

I'm WAY behind on watching Ellen, so just yesterday I saw Amanda Peet on (and the guy from the series) and actually saw a clip so watched all the eps one after the other...NOT realizing it was cancelled. Ugh. I really liked it...
