I think that got a big eye-roll from me when I first saw that episode as a kid. Supposedly that was already a sci-fi cliché even in the early 1960s.
(And there'd already been an episode with a similar twist at the end: the first-season episode " Third from the Sun.")

I just watched this episode on DVD. She only said one word in the entire episode (sounded like "Prokrasny").
Either they cut what you remember from the DVD episode, or perhaps what you remember is from something else?

I think tvlandfanJG may be confusing the Elizabeth Montgomery episode with the Richard Basehart episode omnibus mentioned.
As of yesterday, I've now watched all the "Twilight Zone" episodes on Netflix (seasons 1, 2, 3, and 5 -- I'll go back if and when they add season 4). The final episode was "The Bewitchin' Pool," in which two kids find that they can use their swimming pool to escape their horrible parents -- the weirdest thing about that episode is that the parents have fairly neutral accents, but the kids (especially the girl) have strong Southern accents.

I think you're talking about this one:

This episode is one of eight written by Earl Hamner, Jr. (the real John Boy). Another one he wrote is this one:

The reveal was that they were a giant child's new toys (pets).
I saw this episode when I was quite young and have never seen it again. For some reason it has just stayed with me all these years.
ETA: I just found the episode title: Stopover in a Quiet Town

i still ring in the new year every year with the twilight zone marathon.
most of my favorites have been mentioned
the other one that comes to mind - not sure if it The Midnight Sun but Lois Nettleton paints a picture of the sun because it's getting closer and everyone is dying in the heat.
they don't make TV like this anymore.

Though I keep watching the various Twilight Zone revivals, because they successfully sucker me in (basically exactly the same technique of the TV to movie "remakes" like "21 Jump Street", though I liked the latter since it made fun of its premise).. Though I think all of them have had entertaining episodes.
