The Great Escape on TNT - Anyone else in? (no spoilers please)

I wasn't going to watch this, but after reading this article, I think I will:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/24/ar...er=rss&emc=rss

Since it's by the producers/directors of The Amazing Race and also Howard/Glazer it should be well done.

Sounds interesting enough to me. More like a "game show" than a "reality show" though. I may have to set up a season pass to check it out.

I'll be watching. I love both "escape from prison" movies, and challenge/competition type reality shows so this sounds right up my alley.

This is a reality show that I would love to be in! Of course, I don't have any useful escape skills, other than the fact that if I got broken out, I can run for long distances. . . .

I'm a little bit concerned that it wasn't picked up by a network, but I'll give it a shot.

IMHO, It was OK, given the production team including Amazing Race and Spielberg peeps, it looks kinda hastily mounted. The premise is sound, now it's got to find legs.

Upcoming episode on a de-commissioned aircraft carrier sounds good.

It airs at 10 p.m in my time zone, MST. Is that a bad omen?

I liked the added problem of having to hide from guards was good, it added alot to the game.

I couldn't make it through the show. I normally love this type of show, but it bored me to tears.

I got kind of a humorless "The Mole" vibe off of it. But the teams were lame, and the biggest challenge was primarily a lame hide-and-seek game between the contestants and the "guards." The robot announcer woman was terribly annoying and the host wasn't much better.

As usual for non-sitcom/drama shows, I watched faster than realtime, but it was entertaining.

It's kinda cheesy, but it's summer so I will continue to watch for now.

I enjoyed it. It's not Hamlet but it's not bad for summer fare.

The Great Escape is a misnomer. It was really just a condensed version of TAR. There was no intellect or strategy required; it was just one needle in a haystack challenge after the other.

The only team I was rooting for won.

I enjoyed it enough to keep watching.

Mainly I was thinking how cool it would be to actually run around Alcatraz at night without all the tourists.

Of course I also wondered how the guards were instructed to only look for the contestants and ignore the cameraperson following them around.

That's what I was wondering...of course the guards know where the contestants are! They have camera men with giant lights on the camera pointed at the contestants!

I'm guessing they are given a path, told to look in a certain direction and if they HAPPEN to see a contestant cross their line of site they can bust them.

Seems like the start of a good idea for a game show, poor execution.

Were they all really needle in a haystack challenges? At least some people seemed to be smarter about WHERE to look for the 'needle'.

I wanted to like it more than I did. I think the whole guard aspect sort of made it a bit hokey.

They should just use surveillance cameras and then if someone is seen by the guy monitoring the cameras, the megaphone says "Red team you've been spotted by the camera operator. Go back to the cell".

I was disappointed. It's off my SP. I liked the concept, except for the guards and how that was executed. Oh well, I am not a fan of TAR either, but figured I would give this one a try.

Put me in the gave-it-a-shot-goodbye-now group.

Bored. Looked like a good idea, though.

hm... title says no spoilers, so I'll just say I found the USS Hornet episode very enjoyable.

My father was a Senior Chief Petty Officer (AMCS for those in the "know") in the Navy and worked on carriers during my formative years. I remember getting to tour several of them when they'd come in to port so this brought back some memories. Good stuff.

Is the Hornet an active carrier or is it retired?

ETA: I see it is now a museum. http://www.uss-hornet.org/

They did some creative editing at the beginning to make it look like it was on the move. Must have been using scenes of a different carrier.

Are the "guards" allowed to tase the contestant if they don't halt? Should they be?

I'd give it another shot if they could.
