The Series 2 single tuner

I don't see much on this model.

I think it's a rare gem that's overlooked. In my home office, I have a small TV, and no need for HD. I bought one of these and a wire to hook it to the DTA (I'm on Comcast where everything is encrypted now).
The TiVo talks to the DTA and I'm able to record the 2-90 channels. Right now, the DTAs are still no extra cost.

I just grabbed another one with lifetime, for $75 shipped, to gift to my sister-in-law. No TiVo monthly charge, no outlet fee. And a fresh hard drive on my shelf if/when my own drive fails, so not like she needs to worry if an old device breaks.

I am getting old, paid $800 for my first VCR. But I digress. Just making conversation, wondering if anyone else uses a S2 in a small room that has no need for more.

I have been using an S2 540 series with antenna (and a converter box) for the last three years. Definitely no complaints. Incidentally, I did just move up to a Premiere, and what do you know, the S2 shows up on the Premiere's menu and I can play all of my old recorded shows over the network. Pretty slick!

The S2 single tuner TiVo is not a model, they are many models.
The 11 S2 model prefixes are 110, 130, 140, 230, 240, 264, 275, 540, 565, 590, or 595 and most of these model numbers are also divided into multiple models.
example: TCD240040, TCC24004A, TCD240080, TDN24008A, TCD240140

One reason you don't see much discussion on them is that the last models stopped being manufactured about 5 or 6 years ago and that was several years after all of the other models had been discontinued.

Yes, the S2 is good enough on a small TV and it's much cheaper.

TCD240040 was the exact one I was thinking of. But I meant the Single S2 series in general. Specifically one with lifetime service.

In the small TV, low budget scenario, it's a hidden gem.
I appreciate the lesson on models. Didn't realize even S2 had so many models out there. Now I do.

I have 2 Series 2 and I watch one on my 50" TV and the other on my 47" TV. I have no problems with it interacting with DirecTV.

Two not mentioned here are the 649 Series 2 DT, which is the dual tuner, and also made to not support antenna. The other being the 542, which is a rare variation of the 540 hardware, made not to support antenna the same as the 649.

The other number in the model (such as 080) is the HDD size in GB, which is roughly the number of hours in Basic record quality.

I still use a 140 model Series 2, with my 32" HDTV primarily, mostly to DVR shows on channels I get in SD only, but also as a backup in case I am too busy to watch the HD show. I do not yet have the HD-DVR from my provider.

Not mentioned because the OP had specified single tuner.

Ah yes, the rare 542. I've never actually seen one in the wild

Somehow I ended up with three model 240's within the past year (all with lifetime). Since my cable company still transmits analog channels as well as digital I have one set up in my office that is dedicated to capturing B&W Twilight Zone espisodes from SyFy. One is going to my daughter in Iowa and the other is waiting for an excuse to be pressed back into use.
