Lightbulb Tivo Elite/XL4 Sale - Electronics Expo $319

Just got an email from Electronics Expo for a sale on the Tivo Elite/XL4 for $319 using coupon code EXPOHOT. Says code is good for all Tivo receivers as well. I didnt buy my Elite with them, but I did get 2 regular Premieres from them a few months ago and they are a good company if you've never used them.

Too good to be true. They probably had 3 old elites to get rid of at that price.

They have been going from $350-$380 on Amazon for the last couple of weeks. I think most places are getting rid of Elite inventory and stocking xl4's. Hopefully the prices continue to drop with those as well. I think at $300 they would really sell fast.

Still waiting for issues with Elite/XL4 to be sorted out and/or $300 threshold.

Okay, I'm confused.

The Elite is the 4 tuner job, right?

Is the XL4 an Elite with a bigger hard drive, or what?

Well exactly why they changed it I dont really know. There was some speculation that maybe there might be an XL6 (6 tuners) at some point but Tivo never hinted to that.

Heres a thread where it was discussed:

just pulled trigger. Came to $332. I also got FW %1.5 cashback. Please convince me to cancel order and keep my OLED S3 with 1.5 TB hardrive and wait for S5. I realize I'm giving up on OTA but I'm ok with that. Does this output 24 fps for movies on movie channels like HBO? I don't really need the extra tunners, I don't have any experience with premiere platform. The on-demand though available in my area I don't know how much 'll use it. Will I be able to do lifetime-multi discount? Max is five boxes right? Iv'e already done 5. 2 of these boxes I've sold. Can I get tivo to remove these from my account so I can get more multi lifetime $400 rates for when if I ever want to upgrade to S5?

Didn't think of that. Now I have pending orders from both. Wasn't able to cancel expo yet as they don't have option on website and it's after hours. I'm in California. Do you know which is closer? Do both have same return policy? Any other differences buying between them?

Well I cant comment on Woot because I've never ordered from them. Heard a lot of good things about them though. Electronics Expo is located in New Jersey. Their shipping is pretty fast though. They had a deal on Premieres a few months ago and I got 2 of them and got them in 2 days via UPS. I've never used Woot though so I really cant comment on them and I dont know their return policy. Electronics Expo will send you a prepaid return label if you need to return something so youre not out any money.

Does not sound like that Woot has a good return policy.

How do I return a defective product?Unless we specifically tell you not to, call the manufacturer of the product you bought. You will likely get a replacement of a new model or better item from them. If we still haven't dissuaded you, email rma@woot.com with your woot order number, the name of the product you are returning, and the detailed problem with the item. We will respond with return authorization by the next business day. Because we aren't likely to have a replacement in stock, you should be prepared for a refund-only option if that's all we can do. Know that return freight will be at your expense. Again, you will probably get a better deal from the manufacturer, or whoever else handling member service for that product.

Woot is owned by Amazon, so they are reputable. I have ordered from them many times ( today included ). I think their return policy is mostly a function of what it is they are selling. Often it is discontinued or soon to be discontinued models. In this case I think in light of the TiVo fast-forward sale expiring yesterday, it seems reasonable that TiVo wants to dispose of the last of its "elite" badged DVRs and is using Woot to clear out the last of its inventory. If you were to get sent a bad unit, I don't think you'd have any problems sorting it out between Woot and TiVo.

E-expo was unable to cancel my order even though I sent email request to cancel only an hour after ordering late last night. They say I can refuse shipment but I won't be reimbursed $15 shipping. Trying to cancel my woot order now. Not a great experience with E-expo. You may be better buying from Woot.

I've been unable to cancel orders from Amazon before, sometimes just twenty minutes later. Since it goes into the shipping queue so fast. And to return it, since it's not defective, I had to pay return shipping.
