The Legend of Korra - "The Revelation" - 4/21/2012 - S01E03

I'm really loving the new series. It's shaping up to be as good as the previous series.

They are playing up the point that a lot of benders genuinely are jerks. Although Amon is probably playing this for his own ends, the discontent amongst the non-bending population is genuine.

It's probably a red herring, but Amon saying "took my face", it made me think of Koh from the original.

Absolutely. It's one of the best animated series ever.

Here's a fan-made trailer for the original series:

It's available streaming on Netflix. The new series is on Saturdays on Nick, and online at www.nick.com/korra (go to the Videos tab).

And here's the characters' view of the horrid live-action film:

Minor plot point. Earlier in the episode some sort of suppression to bending was done and it was explained that the effect was temporary. Couldn't the revelation have been more of the same?

They had those pressure points in the first series as well. Basically that form works by hitting pressure points in the muscles etc. which deadens the nerves of the arms and legs so they won't move, and that movement is needed for bending. There were numerous examples of benders being captured by keeping them immobile. What Amon did wasn't like that: he just touched their foreheads and afterwards they could still move their arms and legs, but no bending resulted.

Didn't Aang spirit bend in the last episode? He pretty much took away the firelord's ability to bend.

Didn't Tenzin mention that only The Avatar can take away someone's ability to bend?

Right. My guess: Korra as the fully-realized Avatar can take away Amon's ability to take away bending. Maybe?

My question is, is this show supposed to go over 4 seasons like the first one? I know it's early but I don't see enough plot opportunity to sustain it that long.

I never watched the first series, at first glance I thought it was too kid like... not sure how to put it, because I enjoy a lot of animation, but it just seemed that the series with Ang was not something I would enjoy so I skipped it. But a friend of mine talked about it, said he liked it quite a bit so when I saw the ads for this I figured I'd try it out, get in on the beginning and I'm really liking what I've seen so far.

I didn't realize this was already airing until Saturday. I set it to record.

I have an hour long episode, and another one on my DVR. Is that all that has aired? I was confused because I show that I have the hour long episode 1 and episode 4 after that. My kids loved watching Avatar with me a few summers ago. And I am looking forward to watching this with them as well.

We watch SW: The Clone Wars, Thundercats, and now this together. Great stuff with good lessons.

Hour long is S1E01 and S1E02 combined with title cards separating them, this week was S1E03.

I did not watch the original when it first aired. I thought I would not like it.

Last year I decided to try it out on Netflix. I watched all the episodes on Netflix in less than two months and it was one of the best series I have ever watched. I was sad when it ended. I wanted it to go on forever.

When I heard about the new series I just had to watch it. So far it is great. Getting use to a girl Avatar but I am enjoying the early 1920's tech like the cars and skyscrapers.

The first series only had three seasons/books. Water, Earth, and Fire.

There atre many differences between Aang and Korra's stories. They obviously won't mirror each other.

That being said, the episodes title cards have said "Book One Air" before the episode number and titles. Maybe the next season will break the format, or twist it up a little and be "Book Two Spirit"

Unless they change their minds, it's three seasons of 12,12 and 14 episodes. If the first book is air, I don't know what the next books will be since she already learned fire and earth.

Also, I want more cabbage vendor jokes. Did I miss any in the first three episodes?

Nick made an initial order of 12 episodes of "Korra". A 12 or 13 episode order is typical for a new series; the network doesn't want to commit to more episodes if the show tanks. The original ATLA series started with an 13 episode order and would have ended with "The Blue Spirit" if Nick hadn't picked it up.

Sometime after the production of "Korra" began, Nick apparently liked what they saw and ordered an additional 14 episodes. The also have the option of ordering more episodes.

As far as I know, there hasn't been an official announcement about how they're going to be broken up. The extra 7 episodes ordered for ATLA's first season were all still part of the "Water" book.

There's a small shout-out to the cabbage merchant in the Republic City area on the website.
Spoiler:
Cabbage Corp is a competitor to the Satomobile, making their own Cabbage Car. I expect to see Korra crash through one at some point. "My Cabbage Car!"
