As the thread creator, I say let's stick to fictional tv characters. It's a fun thread. There's no point in it devolving into the normal crappy political thread.

Ha! Yeah, Frank Gallagher might just be the worst character on tv. Love the show and all the nuts on it, but he's pretty bad.

Like I said, I'm only a couple episodes into season 2, but she is trying to be a woman in a man's world and she is playing by their rules, so she comes off as a jerk sometimes - lacking compassion and understanding for the other women in the office, because a jerk to the lady who couldn't do the read the way she wanted. It might be the only way she can be successful, but it's still kind of jerky.

Major Frank Burns +1
Dr. Christian Troy +1
Pete Campbell +1
Frank Gallagher +1
Nurse Jackie
Alexis Carrington
Erica Kane
JR Ewing +1
Dr. House +++++

Now, don't get me wrong, I love(d) them all, but each of them is pretty selfish, arrogant and well, a jerk (with usual mal-intent)!!

I always thought folks like Ted Baxter, Roseann and Louie on taxi were jerks, too, but they didn't seem to be quite as mean or conniving as the list above (IMHO!). They just annoyed me.

After careful consideration and deep statistical analysis, I'd have to go with Jerry from "Tom & Jerry".

Man, I wanted to see the cat win and get that annoying little jerk.

I'd beg to differ that he started on the winning side. Most of the time it seemed he just tried to bully people into thinking he was on the winning side. I don't care much for O'Reilly either. For that matter, I don't much care for any of the "news commentators". Just give me the news of the day, straight and to the point. I can form my own opinions and don't need them force fed down my throat.

Was just reminded of another, very new one, so "all time" may be a bit premature atm.

Character wise, I know Frank Burns (and Hotlips Hoolihan too) of M*A*S*H was supposed to be a jerk and was, at least early on in the series, but I think he/they were topped in the world of jerkiness by Professor Kingsfield on The Paper Chase.

If we're takin' a ride in the wayback machine, then I'd have to toss in Eddie Haskell. That guy was a definite jerk.

I suppose we could also toss in a former SNL alum who later found his special purpose in playin' the banjo.

Steve Martin hosted a bunch of times, but I wouldn't call him an alum.

True, like many, I want to consider Steve Martin an SNL alum, but he was never an official cast member. I just recall seeing him on SNL so much in those early days (and later in repeats) that it seemed that he was a cast member.

It's all ok though, as he was born a poor black child

Olberman's problem is that he's a jerk off-camera too, rather than it just being an act for ratings like the rest of them. That's why he can't keep a job.

Anyway, you can add Ted Baxter (Mary Tyler Moore show) if he's not been mentioned.

There was that d_ck on Amazing Race who was so abusive to his wife. I don't remember his name but any fan of AR will recall.

I think that was HWNWNBM (he-whose-name-will-not-be-mentioned or something like that?).

I guess that's why I can't remember his name.

A little googling reveals his name was Jonathan Baker.
