It hasn't been tremendous this season, but this one was fun.

It was also nice to have a concrete point not too far off in the future that we know he has a child.

Did they ever say that it was Ted's child? I know it was suggested, but for all we know it's Marshal's or Barnie's.

Well, Barnie was upset at Ted for bringing a girl, so it can't be his. And Marshal told Barnie to give Ted a break, not defending "his" girl. I know they didn't outright say it, but I think it's safe to assume it's Ted's.

Also, the whole story is told in 2030 with a girl who is about 15 years old; so it makes sense in every way.

When they said they hadn't studied for the Econ final and there was only one thing to do ... I thought they were going to pull out the big sandwiches.

I've deleted the episode so I can't go back to check, but I thought that in one of the earlier years of the flashback, there was a big honkin' sandwich on the desk or table while Ted and Marshall were talking.

There was, but not in the first one, in 2000.

Yes, the big "sandwich" was on the coffee table in the 2003 flash-forward fantasy sequence. I don't think there was a "sandwich" in the actual 2003 segment.

It was just "OK" for me. Definitely some good gags, including naked and then fully-clothed Barney and the newspapers.

In general, I'm not a fan of "flashback" episodes but for some reason they are don't usually bother me in HIMYM. Or LOST.

I'll go back and read everything above, but first I wanted to say if I was to make a list of the worst shows I was still watching for no other reason than the time I've already invested in it and I wish it would end already, HIMYM would probably be #1, #2, AND #3.

Good God, this thing has become awful!

OK, back to the top to see how wrong I am???

There was some funny stuff in here but it was really a variation on a clip show.

What do you mean? They didn't show any material from previous episodes, did they? Isn't that the defining characteristic of a clip show?

Exactly. How could you call this a clip show? IMO, this is one of the things I love about HIMYM. They're very creative with the way they tell stories and intersperse different time periods into those stories. There are often several time periods embedded into a single "flashback." If you didn't like this episode, then you really have no business continuing to watch HIMYM, because this episode included many of the elements that make this a great show, and I don't understand those people claiming that this was a subpar episode.

Wow - I'm just stirring up all kinds of flames lately. Maybe I need to go back to being two months behind instead of just a week.
