Out of the loop and confused? Get me up to speed?
So my HR10-250 on my main TV just died. I have 2 additional HR10's and then another SD Directv Tivo box (I have refused to upgrade to anything non-Tivo to this point because I am stubborn). I guess I have a 4 LNB dish and I ran my own coax all over the house. But this was something like 4 or 5 years ago and have not kept up with the latest tech. I know new Directv Tivo boxes are supposed to be coming out next year and had just assumed I would upgrade then. But now I am wondering what to do since my main box just died. I get all my HD content OTA currently. I was reading in some other posts about current Directv HD DVR's and there seem to be 3 mentioned by I only find mention of a single unit on their website? So whats the deal with that? The unit on their website is listed as $200. I have always purchased my units but figured I would just lease a new one. Is that not an option now? Also do I need to get a new dish? New switch? More coax runs? Do I get rid of my antenna now? I am just kinda confused as even where to start.

There are three models of DirecTV+ HD DVRs, though only one, the HR23, is current. However, installers may still have older models in stock and the only way to be sure of what you get is to "buy" one from a retailer. I say "buy" because this is a "lease upgrade fee" - the box is still leased.
You will need, at a minimum, a new dish and multiswitch. DirecTV will usually provide and install these free with an equipment upgrade. The antenna can stay if you want OTA but you can't diplex it easily.

Thanks Steve,
I bet I could probably get the box for free from them since I havent gotten a single free thing from them since I signed up 7 years ago. I am guessing they would send me the HR23, but I did find HR22's in stock at Best Buy. And I imagine they would throw in the dish and switch as well.
So these new boxes do not have OTA tuners but I can probably get rid of the antenna since they can now provide my locals in HD (the only thing I use the antenna for). Is that correct?

Be aware that the 199 is NOT the purchase price from either Directv or Best Buy, that is the up front lease acquisition cost, the units are leased and not owned. The HR21-Pro is the unit you would get if you want to buy one, price used to be around 499.00, don;t know what they are now.

The HR2x boxes (other than the HR20) do not have OTA tuners, but an add-on tuner, the AM-21, is available for $50 (not a lease.) If you're satisfied with the locals provided by DirecTV, you don't need the antenna.
