I, too, thought NY was pretty dark and Miami very bright. What a contrast!

Miami does have a great deal of visual appeal. That probably kept me watching a little longer than I did. And I get my Miami scenery fix now on Burn Notice, anyway.
As someone pointed out though, I think they've brightened up NY a bit from the early days of the show. I don't know much about cinematography but they obviously used something to achieve that look.

Edit: Well, there was a little more. Not additional rules, just additional detail in those rules...
During instances of "musically forensiccing", it did not matter if your character was on screen or not - you did not have to drink twice if they were - such scenes merely meant "everyone drinks".
If multiple teams or individuals were "musically forensiccing" in separate locations at the same time, however, during the same song, that did mean drink twice.
Any and all discussion of the rules was to be done, first and foremost, as an excuse to use the phrase "musically forensiccing", a term Insty and I still repeat to this day, and often, even though we haven't actually played this game in years, and even then, it was only once.

Are you playing that game NOW???

I skip these like I skip commercials. You soon get to where you can anticipate the end when the spit screens collapse or the main character walks into the room for the "report".

Thanks for the heads up. I don't record New York so I would've missed that one. I still like the original the best, and I too think Miami looks great in HD.

I've set this to record, but last night I was at my father in laws working on his computer. I was in the bedroom, but he put an episode of CSI Miami on. I'm not sure I can make it through an hour of David Caruso.

Oh, it's definitely going to be an endurance test, no doubt.
My plan is just to focus on how pretty everything looks on our TV.
I also plan on watching all 3 back to back, so the pay off is quicker.

Think of Miami as a comedy. It's much more enjoyable that way.

I like that idea! It'll give us a little mini marathon to watch when there's nothing else on.

Would it be too much for those of us too faint of heart to watch an hour of David Caruso to ask that others made of sterner stuff post a plot summary here after tonite's CSI:Miami episode?

Me too; most likely I will save them for some Saturday when it's a total TV graveyard. And if Caruso does his sunglasses thing to the point where it's totally annoying, then it's FF time!

Just watched the first part of this crossover. Never watched CSI Miami before. I like the other two version of CSI. I have to say that I now rank CSI Miami as the worst show I have ever watched. Nothing was good about that show. Did they intentionally hire the worst actors they could find. And without giving anything away the plot that brings about the crossover made no sense what so ever to me.
I like NY and Las Vegas so hopefully the next two parts will be better.

I once watched an older episode on cable, and came here to ask what the story was with the Miami version. Nothing on the show made any sense. (A total eclipse that lasted about 30 seconds, with a murder a few feet away escaping people's notice because they were momentarily distracted by the shadow over the sun.)
I was told that it's best to view the Miami CSI as a comedy.
True story.

I've never actually made it all the way through an episode of CSI:Miami, and I've attempted it a handful of times.
I haven't tried this one yet, though. I'm still waiting to watch them all consecutively.

I hope the crossover eps show up on the DVDs.. (I haven't watched any of the CSIs for a couple of years, but thought the show was one of my favorites at the time -- I know that sounds weird, but when a show routinely shows up on DVD, I'm *more* likely to drop it due to conflicts..)

Because I'm a sucker for crossovers, I decided to tune into this... I had previously made it through almost 10 minutes of an episode before I shut it off and started a thread about whether or not it was supposed to be a comedy. This last ep was the first one I made it all the way through (with some FF"ing through those wretched A.D.D. montages). It really is the worst show I've ever seen in my life. Even while trying to view it as a comedy I found it almost excruciating.
The show even made Laurence Fishburne suck, which I didn't think was possible. Do people call him "Dr. Ray" on CSI? And do characters on Miami refer to each other by name throughout all the conversations? IE:
"Well Dr. Ray, it appears as though this isn't over."
"Horatio, I didn't think it was..."
"But, Dr. Ray, do you know what will happen next?"
"I'm not sure Horatio... but we'll find out"
All in monotone voices and extreme close ups...
I don't care how "pretty" this show is. It's an abomination. I don't get how it stays on the air for NINE YEARS but shows like Dollhouse or Terminator can barely make two.

Because people watch it. Lots of people.
And hardly anybody watched Terminator or watches Dollhouse.
It's not about quality, it's about eyeballs. And eyeballs are attached to people, who often have no taste.

Exactly... Why? hahah. I know that Miami is on the air because people watch it, but that's my point--I find it crazy that infinitely more people will tune each week to watch what amounts to a visual root canal, but they run away screaming from shows with good stories and much better actors (for the most part) because there's a sci-fi twinge to it, or because it's not just flashing images and a self contained "story".

Clearly the writers have adapted to Caruso's "acting" style (such as it is) rather than the other way around.
So the CSI's call Las Vegas about an open case and instead of the case detective flying down they send a CSI (or rather, he decides to go on his own, right on the spot). Then he notices things the Miami CSI's didn't and Horatio is in awe of his prowess. Okay.

It wasn't enough of an answer. Nothing will be. I'll never understand.
That said, it seems I should stop reading this thread until I've seen all 3, soo...

I have always liked CSI:Vegas.
When CSI:MIAMI stated I watched, but stopped because it sucked.
I started watching for the trilogy and saw how CSI:MIAMI got worse. LOL
Why Laurence used the Helicopter? Could he just fly from LAS to MIA and take a car?
BTW, I love the Grizzly in the everglades. Might as well put a man on a suit.
Should I hope for better in CSI:NY?

It's funny, I thought that line "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you" was a direct rip off from a movie called "Without A Paddle". One of my favorite lines... I was laughing at Miami's blatant rip off but I looked around and I guess that's from an old joke...

Very old. I think the original punch line was, "I don't have to outrun the T-rex..."

I think they did this cross over to get people to start watching the Miami version. I have now watched the first two and the first had to be the worse so far. You can tell the difference in the writing for the two shows. The writers for the Miami one just dont have it. The writing on the New York version was better. However, I dont see any reason to spread this out over three shows. If you took all the filler out it would have made a nice single show.
