Show not scheduled to be recorded - no reason why not
I have a season Pass on my HD for "Lie To Me". Next week's show is not scheduled to record, as it usually is, even though the listing for the episode seems to indicate it is a new one (although there is no line for "first broadcast on") and there is no entry for it under "View Recording History". If there were a conflict with 2 higher priority programs, that ought to be shown under VRH, but there isn't such a conflict. Can anybody explain this? Has anybody seen this? Is there some other explanation that I've overlooked?

The same thing happened to me. No conflict. No reason given why it wasn't scheduled.
It's a new episode called Fold Equity.
Thanks for the headsup at least.

Very interesting. I just checked and have the same situation. Maybe TiVo thinks that Game 11 of the World Series will be played then!
I would guess that TiVo thinks that it is a rerun since there is no Original Air Date given, but then we should get a message in the VRH menu, but none there. I never noticed it or not, but does TiVo perhaps not put an entry in that folder until closer to the record date?

Does the episode show up in the "view upcoming episdes" list from the season pass?
If not, then the show is probably somehow coded wrong in the metadata, and you'll have to schedule the recording yourself.

It shows up in the View Upcoming Episodes list. That's how I found it.

I noticed that it was not scheduled on my Tivo, but just assumed it was a repeat. I haven't been keeping up with this show at all, so I had no idea that it was a new episode. There's no reason listed in the recording history for why it's not scheduled. I just changed my SP to include repeats and now it is scheduled to record.

I'm going to start a thread in the Season Pass Alerts forum since some folks might miss this thread.
Lie To Me (11/9/09) new episode "Fold Equity" not being picked up by Season Pass
I've pointed it back to this thread as a reference.

I'm guessing the lack of an Original Air date is screwing it up - IOW bad guide data. Just another lesson to double check your To Do list - it's dependable 99.9 percent of the time but Tribune gets it wrong once in a blue moon.

Neither did I until I saw a promo for it on Fox as a new episode.

Seems like a reasonable guess. I noticed that it doesn't have any year listed in the guide data summary, which is often an indication that the original air date info is missing.

But if a Tivo doesn't know if a program is new or not, it's supposed to record it just to play it safe.

Suppose to, yes.
But some combinations of guide data seems to confuse it.
If it doesn't have an episode ID then it seems to ignore the OAD (which, in that situation, is often the date the 1st episode first aired) and record anyway. (What is commonly refered to as "generic guide data")
But when it does have an episode ID, but doesn't have an OAD then it seems to compare the non-existant OAD to the current data and decides that the program's not within the 28 day First Run window; so it doesn't record it.
Admittedly, the 1st guide data screw-up is much more common than the 2nd, but it'd be nice if TiVo added a check for a blank OAD so it could play it safe in both situations.
