Can't Transfer from HDXL to PC

Just got a new HD XL and am using it, along with my DR on the same TV.

Both are hard wired to the network
Both can see each other and can transfer shows to each other
I'm using Tivo desktop 2.7

When I try to transfer a program from the HD unit, the transfer fails. These shows are not copyright protected. I tried with 5 different programs, and each fails when I select them en-masse or individually.

I have no issues tranferring from the DT.

I did not do anything special when setting up the HD, it simply replaced an old single tuner on the account.

Did I miss something?

Could be an issue with your firewall program or anti-virus. You might turn them both off, if that solves the problem find out what setting you need so they can co-exist.

I drop the firewall/anti virus/ spyware before I try to transfer.

Plus, it works just fine on the DT - I copied 3 programs off it first before going on to the HD. I even tried closing the program and rebooting.

USe version 2.6.2. It's better than 2.7 anyway.

when I tried 2.7 with Vista it would only transfer shows from multiple boxes consecutively, not concurrently like 2.6.2 does

anyway I use 2.6.2 with win7 and have not seen any problems yet. And I had no problems with 2.6.2 and Vista.

Are you using Kapersky anti-virus? It will only allow files transfers to be about 2 gigs before it fails.

No - I use zone alarm, plus I close out of it entirely.

You can download using the Tivo's IP address

You can also download directly from your Tivo by going to the URL:
https://your.tivos.ip.address/

* Your browser will warn that the certificate is not trusted, OK it.
* Login as user "tivo" and password is your Tivo's MAK (Media Access Key).
* Then you'll be shown a webpage of your Now Playing List - on the right of each program will be a link "Download MPEG-PS" (or "folder" if you group by folders) - click the link and the TIVO file will download to your PC using your browser. It'll go to your browser's download folder - you'll want to change that to your Tivo Desktop download folder.

Did you try unplugging the new unit. Sometimes that will work when just rebooting doesn't.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried it again last night and it worked..

The only thing that was different was the PC was using the wireless and last night I hard wired it.

Everything copied over without issue.

In a way the shows are protected, and what unprotects that is the Media Access Key. That's why the key needs to be the same on all the boxes to access them and what links them together is the Tivo Account.

Transfering data (cars) on the Tivos is like driving on the freeway (cars being the data) and 1 exit and entrance goes to each tivo, without these entrances and exits, you cannot transfer data/shows off 1 tivo (exit) to another (entrance).

In the Tivo Account, which manages these exits and entrances, you add them under DVR Preferences by checking the boxes under transfers and downloads of each Tivo.

For the Computer, Tivo desktop adds its own entrance and exit.

Which each has the Media Access Key acting as a Crossing Guard across the exits and entrances. The Desktop would ask you for the media access key because it cannot get it from the Tivo account which is the manager of the Tivos

The certifiticate is like having a Drivers License, without it, the data (cars) cannot get past the Crossing Guard. Each tivo requesting data will issue a driver license (certificate) to move the car (data), without which, the Crossing Guard will HALT the move.

A new tivo will not have these exit and entrance, drivers license (certificate), register/subscribing the Tivo will only get its crossing guard.

Tivo Desktop issues some of these Drivers Licenses as well, but Desktop 2.7 was restructured so now it issues EXPIRED Drivers Licenses (Software bug)
