Tivo with Time Warner cable
I’ve installed TIVO Series 2 in a house with Time Warner Cable. No cable box. This is in Marina Del Rey, California. I am getting all channels I am suppose to except FOX News and MSNBC. CNN, for example, is fine. I don’t have any premium packages.
When I set recording to Fox News (channel 32), TIVO tries to tune but reports lost signal. If I manually tune via the grid guide or directly, I get black screen.
Any ideas?

I'm in Greensboro, NC and have been informed I just don't get what their box gives using cable cards. Example- half the listing of HD channels, no on demand, no guide, etc. What can one do? Any other Guilford County NC folks out there?

Well, I don't live in Greensboro but if you have cable cards then you should be able to get all the channels that your cable box gets with the exception of on demand and PPV channels. Also if they have started using switched digital video (SDV) on some of their channels, you will not be able to see those. There is supposed to be a cable coming out in 2Q that will allow the Tivo to get the SDV channels. I don't know what if any of the channels down there have been switched over. Right now they are only supposed to be switching over channels that are not viewed very often. You will get guide data. I am not sure why they said that you would not get guide data. The guide data comes from Tribune media group so you should not have a problem getting guide data.
Some of these TWC operators want to try to disinform about Tivo so they could try to keep you on their box instead. Other TWC just don't have any knowledge about the Tivo and what it can and can't do.

I'd have the cable co. check the signal strength.

Thats pretty interesting. I just got cable service after my Directv Tivo box finally died (needed HD upgrade anyway) and Time Warner's DVR is terrible!! Ive yet to inquire about the card, but would love to know the outcome of someone who uses it.
