This has the problems most lists have. Buffalo Bill & Freaks & Geeks are on there, yet neither one went past a season.

While Freaks & Geeks was good, I don't see how you could compare it to matured series that had time to develop.

They even put The Day After in there. That wasn't a "tv show", it was a "miniseries", which I wouldn't call a series. A miniseries is more like a longer movie.

Scrolled down to look for the wire. It was present. Good sign. I think the list is pretty good, actually. Not perfect, but reasonable. The match game belongs on there.

I liked how both the UK and American versions of The Office are on there

Boy that guy must be about 10 years old with that list. Get Smart, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie. I can think of alot more that are better than half that list.

Lame list. Of the top of my head, after one read through, I see missing:

Magnum PI
Columbo
Laugh-In
Rockford Files
The Jeffersons
Dr. Who - I see British entries in the original The Office and Monty Python, so where's the Dr.?

Questionable entries:
Charlie Brown Christmas - like the Day After, that wasn't a series...
MTV 1981-1992 - Huh? That's a channel, not a show.

I read a little of the critics rationale, and yeah there's a lot more than 100 great shows. That's why, IMO, he should have limited himself to series (even if that would take Columbo off my list).

It's a pretty decent list overall, but I don't understand the inclusion of movies like The Day After and the silly "MTV 1981-1992" entry, which isn't a show by any definition.

The exclusions are interesting: no ER, no thirtysomething. I read the "explanation" as to why thirtysomething was left off (because it had the same producers as My So-Called Life), but that makes no sense to me. Huh? They were very different shows.

The list should have been exclusively TV series, so he wasn't forced to exclude some shows because of a silly rule that makes no sense. Take off the Super Bowl, the Day After and MTV and add in ER and thirtysomething.

I'd suggest everyone read the "How I Chose the List" portion - it answers a lot of complaints here. Maybe not satisfactorily, but it does speak to them.

I don't really have a problem with the MTV '81-82 inclusion when reading the description, but I do have complaints about the Super Bowl. And if people are so up in arms about "The Day After", where's the same outrage over "Roots"? Isn't it the same thing (i.e., a miniseries)?

Hasn't aged well, IMO. I don't think it belongs. Plus, they seemed to have wanted to avoid duplications of series that are closely related, and the original Star Trek was already there.

Buffalo Bill didn't have to go beyond one season. It's still one of the absolute best things ever put on tv.

Northern Exposure is the biggest mistake. It would probably be #1 on my list and extremely high on most critics' lists.

The Rockford Files is another one that jumps out at me. The show is over 30 years old but it still holds up well in reruns.

No Wonder Years...that's it, this list loses all credibility.

The list is of the best tv shows, not series, though, so the Charlie Brown special is clearly appropriate. The Day After is a little more questionable. I think it was more culturally significant than it was actually a good show. I think including MTV's heyday was brilliant. An enjoyable, important time in the development of tv, but one that didn't involve "shows" per se.

As for Dr. Who, I know it's a beloved show for many sci-fi fans, but it just wasn't that great a show. It was often fun and always goofy, but not great.

I'm sure glad Soap made it... It had to be one of the funniest shows of all time. I wish they would bring in back on some channel so I could watch it all over again.

How the hell does the Real World end up in there? It had a unique premise but they pimped it out so badly for ratings that it lost any possible credibility long ago.
