What to do with HDR-250 post DTV

I am in the process of switching form DTV to Fios. I don't love the Fios dvr but the picture quality is great and the on demand is nice for kids. On deman sort of makes up for the smaller hard drive. Some day I will probably get a series 3 tivo but in the meantime, what are my options for the HDR-250 that I own.

1) Keep it attached to my tv to watch whatever i previously recorded
2) Pay 29.99 to DTV to record conflicts from my fios on basic channels (expensive)
3) Record over the air shows (is this possible without ANY directv service?
4) Sell on ebay for ????
5) Any other suggestions?

Thanks for any input.

4) Only if you own the unit.

I think that was already made clear.

My recommendation would be to sell your HDTivo on ebay and then purchase an S3 Tivo to use with Verizon. You should be able to get about $400 or more for the HDTivo. You can get two cablecards from Verizon that will allow you to record all channels you subscribe to without the need for an external settop box. I just paid $615, delivered, for my S3.

You can currently get a 3-year subscription to the Tivo service for $299, which is the same price as their 2-year plan, for a monthly cost of about $8.31. Add in the monthly fee for the two cablecards (approx $3 apiece, but YMMV depending on your local FIOS rates) and you're still in the same ballpark as the FIOS DVR, but with higher capacity and better software.

You won't need on-demand with a Tivo since you can archive whatever shows you want, especially when it comes to kid's programming. You'll save yourself the monthly fees for the VOD service that way. Note that you can always upgrade the drive capacity in the S3 Tivo so you'll always have plenty of space for your kid's shows as well as yours.

Great input. Thanks. If i sell on ebay, I assume i call directv to tell them i no longer own it and send the card along with the unit?

If I get an S3 with two cable cards, what do I do with my other 2 rooms? I assume I can just rent dvrs from Verizon but now I am using the home media option which allows the other 2 rooms to share the main dvr's hard drive. I like this option but the small Fios hard drive makes it limiting. Will the S3 allow this in the future?

Is it true that I lose any PPV service as well? Does S3 allow you to rent movies on line to make up for this?
