Mac/DirecTV user with Series 1, wanting to upgrade
I have had my Series 1 since 2/2000 (just after the deadline to move my lifetime membership, unfortunately), and I still have DirecTV (Sony B55 and H20 HD receivers).
I don't want the new DirecTV recorder, and I do want to take advantage of the TivoToGo capabilities of the new Toast 8 via my wireless network. I'm aware of the 8.1 bug with Tivo2Go, but am assuming/hoping that this will be sorted out soon.
From what I have read here, there doesn't seem to be any conceivable way to use the Dual Tuner feature with DirecTV.
My questions:
Am I missing out on any other features by purchasing the older, single tuner S2 Tivo (540080)? I would purchase the Wireless adapter as well, so the lack of an ethernet port shouldn't be an issue.
Since I was able to control my Sony B55 DTV receiver using the serial cable with my Series 1, will I be able to do the same with my Series 2? I'd rather not hang yet another IR blaster.
And as a hypothetical alternative, would I be able to use a USB - Serial adapter to control an H20 HD receiver using the Series 2 single tuner model (using the analog video/audio outputs to feed video to the Tivo)?
Thanks in advance...
