The Official Positive Series 3 Thread!!
The Series 3 Section of TCF has been really painful to look at lately, seriously all that is on here are complainers and people with problems. So with that said, this tread is only for positive comments and people who are having good experiences and enjoying the Series 3's. I will start things off....
I have had my series 3 since launch and had no real problems. My install with Comcast went flawlessly (I had to basically tell the techs what to do, but I am fine with that). I am so excited to finally have an HD-DVR and love watching all my favorite shows in HD now. As to many of the complaints of things missing (eSata, MRV, TivoToGo) I have faith that Tivo will come through and continue to add functionality to this box. I have always felt one of the great things about Tivo is that your product gets better with new features all the time with no additional cost (other the service).
So the rules are, NO NEGATIVE comments in this thread, if you have something bad to say, post it somewhere else, this is for positive comments ONLY!!!
Update: I am sure some of you have posted positive comments in other threads, but those have likely gotten barried by all the negative ones around here, so feel free to re-post those comments here

Um. Wouldn't that be classified as a negative thing to say?

Hardware unpacked ok. No issues setting it up. No issues getting a pair of CCs installed. One slight issue with grounding/noise seems to have been resolved. The new/improved (since my Series 2) guided setup that more or less gets the first day's program guide quickly was much appreciated. Built-in NIC meant that it was even ready to use right out of the box, and not needing additional hardware.
Picture's good, sound's good, response is better than my series 2 TiVos. (Series 2: Watch TV. Hit the TiVo button. Go make coffee. Come back, watch the main menu slowly fill in.)
The thing's been chugging away, happily coming up with some of the most amazingly inappropriate suggestions to fill my hard disk, which at least gives me another venue for entertainment value.
I could find things to complain about, but so far, I choose not to.
Spent last evening glued to the HD set, getting off on the fact that I finally have an HD DVR that isn't a PITA to use.

I took mine out of the box and set it up for off-air. It worked great.
About 3 weeks later I switched cable providers and got some cablecards installed. I had some minor cablecard teething pains, but once it was all setup it works great.
Add MRV and it'd be perfect.

Nah, I am sure they would have figured it out, but I wasnt even going to give them the opportunity to mess up, I knew what they needed to do and helped them through the process.

Got mine the day I expected it to arrive. Set it up for OTA, and it has worked marvelously ever since.

Nice thread. I usually hang around in the Charter & Series 3 thread that mainly reports problems with CC installs and Charter, but I have nothing but positive things to say about my S3. I LOVE IT! Never tried the Moxi so I know that I'm not missing out on much and I went from an S2 to an S3 and have never looked back. This machine is fantastic. I never used MRV or TTG so I'm not missing those either. If they do come out, that would be an extra benefit.

I'm all in favor of these type of threads as well, hope this is more successful then some.
Actually if you read the negative thread titles they are almost bombarded by people saying positive things about the S3.
I love mine. Best thing since sliced pizza.

No problems here either. I even changed my channel lineup and the tivo just ran with it.
I must say, having had a series 2 DTivo for a long time, watching Smallville in high def is almost a religious experience, and well worth $1K
Now all I need is the Scifi channel in high def.

I believe acknowledging that there are negative comments is in itself negative and defeats the purpose of this thread. Please post only positive things.

Pain is negative. In the future, please refer to this situation as a "non-trivial cablecard configuration process."

Please do not borrow trouble in this positive thread. We can make it a success by all working together.

There are no negative thread titles. Insisting that there are is the most insidious form of negativity.

Does this mean that, since they do not do so, that you are not shedding joyful tears and thus, by extrapolation, you are not thus duly joyous? That's smells negative to me! I think you need to pause some HD for a few seconds to regain your Karma.
The Wife, to me, earlier this evening: "I love being able to pause hi-def!"
Chris.

I have been waiting for the TiVo series 3 for years. This is my first TiVo and I love it. I only use OTA so no Cable Card complaints. Aside from a few problems I have been very happy with my TiVo. Especially since yesterday when I got the new software release that has resolved 2 of my problems! Finally I can live a stress free life not having to worry about the TV I am missing!

I got a S1 Tivo in 2000, then a S2 in 2003. I've loved that stupid black box from the first day. When I bought my HDTV 6 months ago I switched to a SA8300 and it didn't take me long to get "a little frustrated" with it. It took about 3 months to get good and sick of the POS. When the S3 hit the street it took me about a day to decide to buy one. It's worth any amount of money to not have to use the unusable SA box.
My experience with the S3 has been nothing but great. My CableCARD installation went off without a hitch, my recordings have been perfect, and I quickly realized that I haven't really enjoyed TV that much for the last 6 months because I wasn't using Tivo.

The problem with forums is that people only come online to discuss things when they have problems or questions. Its just a natural effect of going to ANY forum about ANY product and most of the posts seem negative. That doesn't mean that's the reality.
I got my S3 when it launched and the Comcast setup went smoothly (the trick is be patient - doing nothing is sometimes the right thing!). And since then its been running continuously doing what it does without complaint.
So because its been just humming along nicely, other than a few comments or questions here and there, there isn't much of a reason to post, really.
I was incredibly happy to ditch my Motorola box in favor of this (that was one post I DID make, reasons I hated the Motorola DVR!).
It sucks that people who come into a forum like this to get info on a box will see mostly bad threads. But even if you pick the most successful consumer electronic devices that everyone loves (say, an iPod?) if you look at an iPod web forum, you'll see mostly negative threads about very esoteric bugs, not positive posts by the millions who use them daily.
So hang in there!

I've also had a great experience so far. The installation went smoother than expected. I did not have HDTV prior to setting up the TiVo (I had been waiting for a good HD DVR), and am very impressed with the picture quality. The S3 occasionally seems a bit sluggish, but I expect firmware updates will help fix that. Also, I look forward to restoration of the "Recently Deleted" folder.

Add me to the list of satisfied S3 owners. The CableCard install went smoothly, and I love high-def (I'm a newbie to it - been waiting for the S3 to come out since high-def without tivo is worse than no high def at all!). The dual-tuner thing is awesome, and I love the new little bells &whistles - glowing remote, seeing what's recording on the front of the tivo, a peanut that I can tell which way it's pointing without looking at it, etc.

I love my Series3!
The OTA tuner is MUCH better than my TV's. HD locals come in crystal clear!
The regular tuner (basic cable) is also very very good. Plus I love the easy way to Zoom letterboxed content.
Love that I got an HDMI cable in the box. Very convenient!
Setup (wireless adapter from TiVo) was easy too. Much quicker than previous Tivos I've owned. I was up and running in under a half hour.
VIP line to transfer service had low wait time... I was on and off the phone within 5-10minutes.
The remote is slightly different but very cool. Love the backlighting!
I've only had my S3 for less than a week but I'm VERY happy with it.

Everything about my S3 has gone perfectly. No issues at any time. I got it set up the day before I went on vacation and it got the new shows while I was gone without issue. It's so great to be able to watch the shows in HD, it makes it so mcuh easier to obsess about all the little clues in Lost when I can actually see them!
I certainly can't wait for that eSata port though! Too many new shows this season that I want to watch and with such limited space I can't just wait till much later to watch them. I never used the TivoToGo much, it just took way too long to transfer a show, transfering an HD show will probably take that much longer. I don't need Multi Room either, but I do need more recording space.
That all said, a year + waiting since I first heard rumors of an HD Tivo and I have not been anything but pleased with its abilities. But being a computer programmer I do tend to be more patient with software glitches than most people since I know what its like to deal with them.
By the way, I have the S3 from Tivo.com through the VIP deal and Two Cable Cards from Cox in Fairfax VA.
