480i HDMI behaviour question

If I use component, I can have alternate resolutions of 480i and 720p just by pressing up arrow while watching TiVo shows. I have found this very useful for using my TV's 480i zoom modes when watching a 4:3 channel showing a show broadcast in Letterbox.

If I switch to HDMI for my HiDef does using up-arrow to switch to 480i shut off the HDMI port and then output on analog? If so is the analog only over s-video and RCA video or does 480i also come out the component ports?

I know my set won't do 480i over DVI so I assume it won't do 480i on the HDMI port either.

If you switch to 480i, the HDMI output will be 480i but then the analog outputs will turn on as well.

The component outputs handle all resolutions.

Yeah, I display 480i on HDMI all the time.

What brand/model TV do you have? Some TVs won't display 480i over their HDMI input.
