Update to Roamio Plus Questions

I currently have a Premiere upgraded to a 2TB drive with lifetime service. While the unit works fine it is sluggish as the Premiere's are prone to do. I would like to stream Tivo content to my iPad, too. I know I can do this with the Stream, something I had but got rid of because of how loud it was.

So I guess my first question is the Roamio noticeably faster over the Premiere in the menus? Are all menus HD now or, like the Premiere, is it sort of piecemeal?

I know the Roamio Plus only has a 1TB drive: is there any way I can move my 2TB drive from the Premiere into the Roamio and have it update to the latest Roamio software? I'd rather not lose an additional TB of data if I don't have to.

Or am I being stupid and just stay with the Premiere since it has a lifetime service?

get what you want. Your old box is worth some good $$, perhaps a little more due to the latest update. The stream could have been anywhere on your network, basement, closet, ect, and thus avoiding the noise (too late now).

Faster- yes, tons of threads on that.
HD- same, but those are rarely used screens.
2TB- move it on over, super simple.

You will lose your current recordings if you plug in your existing 2TB drive into the Roamio.

The Roamios are much more responsive overall.

Whatever menus are SD on the Premiere are also SD on the Roamio still.

Roamios are easy to upgrade. Plug the drive in, and done. It formats and downloads what you need. But it won't save anything currently on the drive.

The new software update may give you a little relief from the Premiere sluggishness. Haven't tried it myself yet but supposedly it helps a bit.

Not so. I live in an apartment, so the only two places it could go was in the living room by the home entertainment (where my router and cable modem are) or in the bedroom where the computer is. Neither is a good place for it.

Sounds good. Looks like I'll need a way to back up the Tivo recordings first if I want to move them, but I'm happy to hear it's a fairly simple process. I think I'll wait to see how the Premiere update goes. If it's better than it currently is I will stick with it; I like not having to pay a monthly subscription.

Thanks for the input guys.
