So did I miss, last season, that Frank is a Democrat? Or did I just forget?

Remy is a genius the way he's let Jackie think the relationship is all her idea.

Why didn't Seth find out about the affair on his own? Not to tell Remy, but as part of doing his homework.

these episodes i was having a hard time with. The all out war with Tusk just seemed a bit too much of a scorched earth plan. Ok, FU wanted to get rid of Tusk's influence, but he was heading the country into disaster, and regardless of his plan to achieve greater power, if the country goes to sh*t, he's going to be losing since he's now part of the administration.

oh they were absolutely known to be Democrats last season. i remember thinking it was funny at how ironic the whole storyline with them facing off against the teacher unions was.

I'm not sure what he is up to. Did I miss a clue? Or is Remy playing the long game and we do not know his goal yet?

How bad is Frank's potential exposure with the bridge deal? He made a big fuss about limiting the exposure of the President by not telling him about it. But I do not see what the big deal is. Is Frank worried that the President would find out that Frank is maneuvering to close down Tusk's refinery project? It does not seem like the President would take Tusk's side if Frank told him how Tusk is involved with taking away the money from the Dems and giving it to the Reps.

I'm certain Remy is playing a long con.

I haven't followed the bridge saga very well.

Maybe it is just general strategy. No amoral lobbyist worth his salt would miss the opportunity to have an intimate relationship with such a powerful politician.

I think what Frank was protecting POTUS from was the fact that he basically sold the Long Island Sound bridge project to the Chinese in exchange for political funding. Whether it's soliciting money for the Dems, or getting them to agree to stop funding the Republicans, it's essentially the same thing.

The fact that Stamper threw in that extra requirement at the end about shutting down the refinery deal with Tusk was just an extra bit to twist the knife in Tusk's side. I'm not sure whether there was much of a political issue with that.

The part that I didn't get is that the rare earth mineral refinery seems like it would be a much longer term profit center, and likely to make Feng much more money, than getting the contract to build the bridge. The bridge is a finite project that would take 10 years or so, and probably cost $10-20 billion, but then it's over. The refinery could theoretically sell rare earth minerals for several decades and likely generate much more than $20 billion in profits. So why would Feng be willing to give that up just to get the bridge project? Unless Feng is still going to be involved in the refinery but he's simply being asked to cut Tusk out of the deal. If that's the case, then it makes more sense.

Lanigan was certainly disrespectful to the VPOTUS. I find that a little hard to believe.

I'm glad to see all that wasted time with Claire's affair from last season is finally going to have a point.

Why does Stamper have all this time to be stalking Rachel? Seems like he must have other stuff to do.

Yes, I believe that Tusk is cut out, not that Feng is stopping the project.
But I also believe that it was hinted that if Feng didn't get the bridge project going, he'd be facing corruption charges again, which would mean lethal injection.

Is it an affair if Frank knows about it and is ok with it?
I thought that it was pretty clear that the Underwoods have an open marriage.

I think the Underwoods are okay with the open marriage but that would be political suicide if it came out to the public. Just imagine what would happen in real life if the Vice President and his wife had an open marriage. I shudder to think about the media coverage.

Tusk blacking out the entire southeast would have been front page news. The word would have gotten out, even if was "That just that crazy Rachel Maddow librul again." Same with Tusk's money going to the GOP PAC.

Are we supposed to guess if the new press secretary is a double-triple agent? Being that he turned down Remy's money, he might really be on Frank's side.

Stamper called Rachel from China. They're going to find her.

In this world of paranoia I suppose we'll find out that Rachel's church buddy is also working for Tusk.

I still don't see why the U's are trying to chip away at the Prez's marriage, ...Oh. Keep him from running for a second term so Frank can step up.

Oh yes, an open marriage for such prominent political figures would play as well across the US as the fact that Claire had three abortions simply because they didn't want kids.

They'll probably have to spin it much like the Clintons did, Claire acknowledging that she made a mistake during a time a marital distress and she regrets it deeply and Frank loves her and forgives her.

I have this suspicion as well.
Well, not necessarily Tusk but her motives aren't love and friendship.

Possibly but also that it keeps the Walkers distracted and more prone to manipulation (by them, that is).
Plus the Underwoods get to look like the caring and supportive friends, which gets them more influence with the Walkers.

Wasn't it really Feng's money though?

And Tusk has carefully cultivated an image of staying above politics.

There was some dialog that indicated that this would all or at least enough of it would come out.
The problem was that it would be after the midterm elections, way too late for the Democrats.

I think it's Tusk's money being laundered through the casino by being "lost" by the Chinese.

Hoping this isn't in a future episode (I'm not that far ahead)...

Tusk tells Frank that it was his money that got them the Dem majority in the house. "We weren't so interested in where the money came from when we were getting it."

Again, the media would dig out who is behind the PAC. We know when a PAC is really, Soros, the Kochs, Rove, etc.

The media still thinks that Zoe Barnes died in a tragic accident and Peter Russo committed suicide.

I'm not sure that they had proof that Tusk was funneling the money to Feng.
After all, the Republicans didn't seem to know for all those years it was being funneled to the Democrats.

And again, the issue was that none of this would come out in normal investigative channels until after the midterm elections.
Which would have been too late for the Democrats.

Everyone knew that Lanigan was donating money to Democratic candidates. There was never any question about that for all the years while Frank was in the House. The Dems knew it, the Rs knew it. They figured he must be very committed to D causes. No different than Soros in real life.

The only reason this became an issue is that Lanigan had previously donated $18 million to D causes, and suddenly he wasn't donating anything and suddenly the Rs were getting an extra $25 million out of nowhere. Nobody who had donated so much money exclusively to D causes because they truly believed in them would suddenly stop abruptly like that. That raised eyebrows and then Frank made the connection that the money was never being donated directly by Lanigan. It was simply being funneled through Lanigan for the political purposes of others. Once Frank figured that out, it was pretty easy to figure out who was pulling the strings.

Is there some possibility that she's really a nice person? Haven't found many of those in Washington so far!
