Removing commercials

Hey guys,

I am sure there has been alot of discussion about this, and I searched and have read alot, but most of the discussions have gone way over my head. Is there a simple way to remove commercials from my tivo recording before I burn them onto a DVD?

I used to have some software from the tivo site that allowed me to edit the downloaded files and burn them onto a dvd. It was the saddest day of my life when my hard drive failed and I lost that software.

So, what I am looking for is a replacement method. I have a bunch of files already downloaded to my PC via tivotogo. I am looking for some kind of utility that I can use to edit these files, delete out the commercials, then burn them to the DVD.

I have Roxio V9, but it won't let me edit out the commercials. Somehow a while ago I figured out how to use Roxio to convert them to another format and I was using Windows Movie Maker to edit out the commercials, but for some unexplainable reason I can't figure out how I did that now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Best Player for Watching .tmf files on my PC

My apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but I'm nearly bald from pulling my hair trying to find a Player that will play native .tmf files (without having to convert them to some other format first such as .tivo) that I've FTP transferred to my PC Xp.

Admittedly, I'm a newbie, and it's possible that some of the players I've tried might actually work with some tweaks. But I need a player that will work "out of the box and play the .tmf files on my PC. Any recommendations?

I've tried Zoom Player (blank screen), GOM Player (blank screen), Media Player Classic (Says it's "opening" but never opens the file), and finally SM Player (worked great at first, but then grew buggy, with Error Code #1 and refused to work again, despite repeated uninstall and installs).

Any suggestions? I have an S1 Box.

1. I have a working Tivo HD with recently upgraded 1TB hdd
2. I have original 250GB hdd from Tivo HD mentioned above
3. I have another Tivo HD with a bad hdd.

What would the best way to fix the Tivo with the broken hdd? I used winmfs to clone my original 250GB drive into the 1TB drive (thanks tivocommunity! it worked great).

What happens if I put my working 250GB drive from my original Tivo into the broken Tivo HD? Can I then do a factory reset or something?

Would I be better off just buying an imaged drive online or something like that?

The end result that I am hoping for is to have 2 Tivo HD's on my acct.

I recently purchased a 2nd Tivo Series 2 DT, and I am trying to hook it up. Everything is fine EXCEPT I don't have cable and there is no option to tune it to a digital converter. My cousin hooked up our first one, and he said it took half a day to do it, spending quite a bit of time on the phone with customer support. Once they figured out how to get the settings correct, it works perfectly, and it's been 3 years since he hooked it up and he doesn't remember what he had to do to get it to work.

What do I do if I don't have cable or satellite? There is no online option for those of who choose not to have cable. HELP!!! I need to be able to configure my digital channels to my DVR.

Some background. When the zipper tool came out I was able to successfully zipper 3 tivo's. I have kept all my notes, disks, etc that I used to do it.

Recently one of my tivos (DVR40 - single drive) hard drives went out. I purchased a new 320GB drive and used the zipper again. I got to the point of putting the drive into the tivo, but every time I try to start it I get the welcome screen and then the almost done screen for a few seconds. It then showed a Green error screen noting a Severe Error. it then rebooted and kept repeating the process

I have pulled the drive and rezippered it again with the same result.

I verified that all cables are seated properly.

I connected to it with a serial cable and it is giving an error about the file system being inconsistent.

If anyone would be so kind as to help me troubleshoot this I would greatly appreciate it.

I just can't seem to figure out the issue.

Thanks in advance

I asked for help in the zipper thread, but it seems nobody watches that thread much anymore.

hr10-250 cloned drive won't boot

I have a thread going on the DTV HD Tivo forum, but it was suggested that I post here for suggestions... original thread can be found here: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=7583591#post7583591

I have an HR10-250 with the 3.1.5f software.

I had a drive fail (no longer boots past the welcome powering up screen) which was a cloned drive that I zippered. My original drive still boots, so I am trying to clone it to another new drive, but the cloned drive wont boot either no matter what command I use. I have run out of things to try. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am debating trying to restore one of my backups from my orig Tivo to my Orig Tivo (overwriting the currently working software) in order to determine if the other drives I am trying are just bad, or if something is wrong with my backup/restore commands. I am not sure if this is a bad idea, because if my backups are bad, then I have no drive that boots and don't know what I would do from there.

The only other option I can think of is to buy a new hard drive and try to restore to it, but if it doesnt work then I am out the money for the new drive that I dont really need.

If I do go the new drive route, does anyone have any suggestions on SATA vs PATA since I am having trouble with getting drives to boot? I know SATA requires an adapter.

Is it possible that there is something else wrong with my Tivo?

I have been meaning to upgrade the software and have been trying to get it to update the original drive with no success, could my problems be due to using the old software? any suggestions on how to force it to upgrade? (I do not have a phone line at home, so have to take it to a friends house to make a call, but they don't have DTV, do I need satellite and phone hooked up at same time to get the upgrade?) I am pretty sure it has downloaded the software because the first call I made was downloading for an hour and a half.

Thank you for any help

I will be out of town for a while and I was wondering how could I tell my tivo to use an SSH Tunnel to access US service with it. I usually use hulu.com (from outside USA) using this method, but I can't figure if it's possible to do so with my TiVo. I though about an ad hoc connexion with my laptop (I have both Mac and PC), but I figured there must be another way of telling TiVo to use the tunnel. Any thought?

Thank you.
